THE WOLF IS IN THE TOILET

I Don't Know anyone that listens to 95.7 The Wolf! It has to suck and have low ratings!

The Bay Area is not a place for country music!

I hope that the owners change it for something better like a Rhythmic AC, CHR, Urban, Hip-Hop/R&B, or something that will Bay Area will listen to!

The Wolf's ratings aren't very good - that's true. But at least it's something different, not just another slight variation on CHR/Urban/R&B. We have about a dozen of those stations already.

As small as the country music audience may be in the Bay Area, at least the Wolf has the format pretty much to themselves, except for the South Bay's KRTY which doesn't come in clearly in much of the region.

Flipping to CHR/Urban/Etc would just guarantee lower ratings than they have now. If country doesn't appear to have any future here, they'd be better off becoming another Light Rock station. Sure, they'd cannibalize some of their own ratings from KOIT, but they might gain some share if the play list was a bit different (more upbeat?, even softer?..something like that), and they'd guarantee that no other company would try to come into the market with a light rock competitor.

all true... except it is a known fact that a male who is 22 years old is far less likeley to fill out and return a diary than a 50 year old.even if they send it to them. it doesnt mean they are going to get it returned.
on top of that... how many 24 year olds do you know that has a phone at home and not only a cell phone? diaries only go to homes with a land line.

In any case, there are no diaries being placed in the SF market any more. The sample is a panel, and is supposed to be proportional with the population.

Cell phones are being incorporated into the sample frame, and will be part of the PPM soon.

In any case, when a certain group responds less than others, Arbitron simply does a more aggressive job to recruit them so they will be represented in proportion in the sample. So if any of the problem areas, like 18-34 men, Blacks, Hispanics, respond in lower numbers in the diary sample, they simply place more diaries in those groups. If they all come back, they are weighted down. If they come back as predicted, they are proportional.

Yes there are diaries in the SF market. The embedded Santa Rosa market will continue to have diaries, and be merged into the people meter San Francisco and San Jose panel info. This is according to Arbitron, anyway.

That's about one of the dumbest statements I've ever seen on radio-info. Sounds well researched.

Don't forget, Marin County has a country station as well.

What station is that, djtalker?

1510 KC is now in Piedmont, and USED to be Country (as KTIM!) in 2002, but I wouldn't
designate KPIG-AM as "Country" now...
Is that non-comm station in Point Reyes Station, KWMR 90.5 MC, playing Country music?

Back to KBWF for a moment: since I haven't tuned in for months, can anyone tell me
if that annoying Wolf-SFX they aired every 3 minutes (I'm exaggerating, but only slightly)
is still making its presence known? That, in itself, can be a reason for tuning out KBWF...

There was a station on 92.9 up there - froggy? - maybe "the frog"? I used to get them before KTOM turned on their IBOC noise generator. They're probably still there.

Dave B.

Oh, yes...KFGY, Healdsburg (upper Sonoma County) at 92.9 MC - the station
that killed Q-105 (KRPQ)...

It's a good country station for what it is...that is, a 12-in-a-row type station...

At least I never heard Frog-SFX (ribbet) whenever I tuned in KFGY in my travels...
