The Wolf Morning Show Evolution

(Sorry for the duplicate post) - Velvet hates when I do it :)

Just spoke to a friend "in the know" at Duh-Woof and word is the PD is looking to Dumb Down the morning show. He says the original lineup was too "smart" for it's own good ... too much conversation & current topics / not enough snorting & ------ jokes that a country audience is supposed to love (is that true even in the bay?)

They test drove their mid-day chick (Nikki) a couple of times but apparently the feedback was laughable and she doesn't have what it takes to host a Market #4 Show yet ... I actually heard one of her mornings and she's definitely not the brightest bulb (but isn't that what they want?) ... once again, who knows!

Sounds like they are really confused over at Duh-Woof. My humble opinion is that the morning show was refreshing, with young, smart "Bay Area" folks on it (every member of the morning crew are locals) - Every other jock on that station (Mid-days, Afternoon Drive, & Nights) are from out of town & smaller markets...NOT ONE FROM THE BAY AREA. ... I have many intelligent friends who listen to country (and Duh Woof) and I think their "out of town" PD is underestimating this audience.

Will be interesting to hear the new "Dumber" morning show though, but can only hope they don't have a bunch of country folks shouting the whole show like their afternoon guy does.

Good Luck Woof!

I think it's a dumb move. They're risking losing part of their audience by getting rid of a group that people liked.

Fix the music rotation first, then start firing people if it still isn't working. The morning show isn't the problem!

I work with a California Radio & Television talent agency (Los Angeles, San Francisco, & San Diego) and we know that the The Wolf's PD is now feverishly scouring the country for morning talent after making the move to dismantle the current lineup. Their current host, Gill Alexander, with his past television experience is probably far better off, as interest is already brewing for his talents in the Los Angeles area.

Problem they've run into = The Wolf is not prepared to pay the salaries of the hosts they have been courting, from markets such as Los Angeles & New York, and it looks as if
the station has backed itself into a corner & will end up paying for it's hasty decision. As mentioned by another poster, the station scrambled to see if any of it's
other on-air talent might fit the morning bill (Nikki - Mid-day, JoJo - Afternoon, and others) but the experiment was an embarrassment with their consultant promptly making a call to the
station and the PD pulling that plug fast.

Nikki & JoJo, both of whom are known from other (smaller) California markets, don't possess the sophistication or diversity required of a Bay Area host -- and let's face it, San Francisco listeners and industry folks are pretty darn smart. Once the current morning lineup is replaced, none of the on-air talent will be local. We're not sure that such a good idea, only time will tell.
