The Wolf to flip?

I'm hearing rumors that Entercom is going to flip San Francisco's Wolf (KBWF) from Country to CHR/Rhythmic.

I HOPE NOT!!!!!!

Gee, just what San Francisco needs; another rhythmic station. <rolling eyes> How about a 'Mainstream CHR' format for a change??? Blowing up 94.9 or 106.1 for that would be perfect - and leave 95.7 alone. Just one man's opinion.

The Bay Area already has 92.7 REV (less listeners than out of market KSFM/ Sacramento does in the Bay Area...Ouch ) and Movin' 99-7.

Interesting - seemed that Movin' 99.7 was more of a gold based R&B (when the format was launched). Been a while since I tuned them in. Been relying on WXKS "Kiss 108" in Boston for a top 40 outlet. Thanks for the update, Michael! :) Rev is a sad situation with that pee-shooter signal. Way too much real estate in an FM challenged region for a lone class-A signal.

I would really like to see 95.7 gen x radio

true dat! its sister stations with 106.5 the buzz in sac and 95.7 was a chr in the 90s.

Has anybody look at 106.5 ratings in Sactown? Their 90s format is doing horrible in that market. If 95.7 to become Gen-X radio. Look for Alice @ 97.3 to kill 95.7 ratings.

Where did you here these rumors from?? If The Wolf flips, I'm not gonna be happy. I have heard many many country stations over the years, and I can honestly say The Wolf is the best there is.

Huh? Didn't they just hire that guy from Energy 92.7? Why would they flip already?

I've been seeing commercials on TV for The Wolf. This is especially notable because radio stations rarely advertise on TV these days. You don't even see Clear Channel or CBS stations advertising on their own billboards.

I don't you spend big money on TV ads if you're preparing to change formats.

Besides - what's the point in dividing the CHR pie up even smaller. At least now they have a format virtually to themselves, and country music has been more mainstream again lately.

Country music is very hard market to sell in San Francisco becuase of the demographics. Look how many country stations did we have in the past?

KSAN 94.9
KYCY Young Country/Y 93.3
95.7 THE BEAR
95.7 THE WOLF.

Look at these ratings in the past for Y93.3, 95.7 THE BEAR, and now 95.7 THE WOLF. There horrible. Country music will do well in Diablo Valley, South Bay and North Bay, not in San Francisco, Oakland East Bay, or the Penninsula.

Actually, KSAN (along with sister station KNEW) did very well with country for the latter half of the 70s and most of the 80s. But you're right, the demographics did seem to change. I wonder, though, if the current crop of crossover country artists might be making the format a bit more mainstream for San Francisco audiences.

That 95.7 frequency has always been a challenge. Bonneville bought a failing KPIX-FM and tried something like 5 formats on that signal without making a dent (two variants of CHR as z-95, classic rock as The Drive, country as The Bear, Jack-esque as MAX). I think it's a coverage issue. I've driven the coverage map of that signal, and in San Mateo county it's like a lace tablecloth, despite what one would think is a good transmitter location on Bruno.

Which is odd cause it is one of the best performing signals for the East and North Bay. As for a Gen-X type of format; doubt it'll happen. Like some else just said. 106.5 in Sacto isn't doing well and nor is Alice. It's also worth mentioning, Live 105.3 is in the dumper too.

in the April people meter ratings, Alice is killing in 25-54 and the Wolf has made huge gains...sorry to burst the format change bubble.

Does someone post the April top 10 25-54 Adults and Females?

This sounds like a posting just to create drama. In other news, did you hear that Hammerin Hank is coming back to Wild.
