The Wolf vs. KSCS

KSCS now beating KPLX (though historically, KPLX has had quite a lead in the 25-54 demos). Needless to say, KPLX has lost more than half its audience when compared to the first half of the decade.

So, does KPLX...

(a) ...assume with KTYS gone, they get that audience since KTYS was created solely for the purpose of flanking KPLX to help KSCS. With that, no need to do anything.

(b) ...figure this is a continuing disturbing downward trend. Perhaps a boring, generic, non-Texas-heavy country playlist combined DJs with their personalities surpressed is not a winning combination in a market that seems to have embraced a country station with some life/attitude/fun to it (KYNG during the '90s, Wolf 1999-2005).

I hope for (b), but suspect (a) will be the outcome...

There's a new dynamic in the DFW Country market with Twister now gone.

What do you think will happen. Will this now clear the way for a third Country outlet that has a powerful stick to enter the mix. Which one of the two stations here now is gonna do better with Twister gone?

I think it's wrong to assume that Wolf is younger and hipper station. With the changes that have been made over the past year and a half I think that it's a wash between them and KSCS. Combine that with the more generic delivery of the jocks on both stations and it's time to bust out the ipod's.

I think 96.3 has the edge now in the younger and hipper department. Every time I tune over to 99.5 lately I hear something gold (and not something I would consider good gold), and 96.3 seems to be playing more currents. Also the way 99.5 talks dry with no music beds really drags things down for me. KSCS feels like it is moving forward.

With Movin actually doing some Movin up in the Ratings - who would be the likely candidate if there is room for another Country ?

- BTW Nikki Nite running adds for a full time producer to work with major talent, What station is that ? -

Jan could look brilliant right now simply by doing some reverse engineering - undo what Sebastian did, undo what Cook did, P Williams was maintaining when they gased him....Go back to what worked. Pay for some talent, write some decent stuff for Barry to cut, and play a Texas tune every qtr hour. Do it now while you still have some lead on KSCS and The Wolf may have a chance.

BTW part 2 - Nice sweepers saying 10 years of being the #1 Country...they flipped summer of 98 and were not # 1 till 99.

Excellent advice. It should be carried out immediately before it's too late.

I Bet 92.1 Might Try to Pick UP The Slack :p
Fortworth Has 95.9
Dallas Might Get 92.1
Well.. North Dallas Anyway. Near Downtown.

I think The Ranch's playlist has become too restrictive since going totally Texas Country. Their goal should be playing the best traditional country, no matter where it comes from and no matter how successful or unsuccessful it has been on the charts. I think it was a better station when it skewed towards Texas County, but also played George Strait, Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley and a old classic every once in awhile.

You wait, when KPLX gets beat by KSCS, Mr. Know it All Jan Jeffries will blame it on the jocks. The real problem is the MUSIC.
