The word about KOOL

I just received an email back from Briggs about KOOL FM. Let me tell you all I really enjoy the station. They do have a better mix of the hits then what COOL 96.9 had and you all do not want to understand that. They are doing well with the format they are using. Heck these days you all complained that when COOL went to Eagle you all on the board started shouting that some of you all would go to satelite radio. Well satelite radio is commerical free and jock free. Well the same situtation here with KOOL except that it has commericals and one jock which is The Arf in the mornings. Okay that is three hours a day. That means for 21 hours out of the day no jocks and thats what everyone seems to enjoy in the Jacksonville market.

Also from Briggs: DO NOT EXPECT ANY OF THE TALENT FROM THE FORMER STATION. They are looking at the option of adding more jocks but they are not definte about the time. Just let Briggs do what he's got to do. He knows what Jacksonville wants and you all have got let the station let it do its thing and let all of the bugs out and let it go about how bad you hate the station.

Why not we now move on to other things like:

DIXIE IS BACK AND SHE IS DOING GREAT ALSO!!!!!!

Papa was a Rollingstone in morning drive? Clusters of 70s songs and then clusters of 60s songs and songs from the 50s peppered in. Somebody done put Selector on cruise control!!!

Yea with you and Mustang Rio who have never been photographed together! HMMMMM! Kind of like Martha Stewart, Back Up and Chicken Noodle who have the same number of posts and share the same profile!

Brilliant Briggs, take their exact call letters, but Heaven forbid you use any of the people that built the station!

Beginning when, right now? He hasn't for the past decade or so!

Mburg, I am holding myself back from correcting your grammar!

about KOOL

That's all fine about Kool and Briggs and all that. Many could care less if the old "Cool" jocks come back- not a major deal.

But their music flow is lousy and they are a terribly produced radio station. The "sound" just ain't there. They just don't sound on-par with most Jacksonville radio stations.

Got it, Mr. Briggs or whatever?

Top 10 insane remarks from the above post:

10) "I enjoy the station"

9) "They are doing well with the format they are using"

8) "all of you (us) would go to satellite radio"

7) "Satellite radio is commercial free and jock free"

6) "that's 21 hours....everyone in the jacksonville market enjoys"

5) "Don't expect any talent from the former station"

4) "They have a better mix of music than what cool 96.9 had"

3) "You all do not understand"

2) "They have one jock....Arf in the mornings" (Jock?)

1) "LET BRIGGS DO WHAT HE'S GOT TO DO....HE KNOWS THE JACKSONVILLE MARKET"!

My god, MBURG, can I interest you in buying a 1971 Chevy Vega? I can't believe that you actually believe in what you are saying! No one that knows anything about radio could possibly come to the defense of this mess on 100.7.

Bud - do us all a favor. When you post your thoughts -copy it to a Word document and run spell and grammar checks. You lose credibility right off the bat.

You are in the minority about the music mix. As others have commented, the positioning of many of the songs needs work. That's been talked about over and over again and I'm not going there again.

When you say (A La Briggs) they are doing well with the format, what the heck are you talking about? If they had moved from a 1 to a 3 share, I'd say they were on to something.

By the way, satellite radio is not completely jock free. Those who listen to satellite radio enjoy the offering of tons more formats than what you will find in a local market. And don't be fooled into thinking what the public really wants. When research is done that asks the question, "Do you prefer to hear many songs in a row with little or no talk or do you want to hear dj banter?” let's be real - we know the response. When expenses go down, profits go up, duh. So, the powers that be, with "research" on their side elect to have few live and local talents. With completion being what it is, cracking a 3 share with little or no talent is a good trade-off.

My friend, I ask that you re-read the many posts about Kool and try to think about what we were trying to say. To me, there is no excuse for what took place - especially earlier on. Did anyone ever explain why there was so much dead air?

It's great that you are such a fan. I've been a radio fan all of my life too. But, is there really anything to cheer about these days?

Re: about KOOL

> To anyone who loves Oldies and has heard a great radio station, or through experience knows what it should sound like - it's obvious KOOL 100.7 has been a tremendous disappointment. The station may serve some basic needs for the average casual listener who might stumble on to one of their favorite songs here and there. Most listeners don't listen to the radio the way radio people do. There was a good discussion about this topic on the Denver board recently that Oldiescat participated in. But, unfortunately, this version of KOOL is going to be hard pressed to gather a loyal following without at least a decent airstaff and better music scheduling. The audio keeps changing from week to week, and the imaging has been questionable from the time they flipped. With momentum for the Oldies format slipping almost everywhere you look, it's unbelievable that Renda didn't pour more resources into making this something "special"! As positive and hopeful as I've been over the past couple of months, I really don't see the new KOOL getting it together - I hope, as a listener, they prove me wrong!

Oh Dear, reviewing this thread screams one question Has Dino Costa returned (as a different entity AGAIN) to this board?

I fooled my wife into thinking for an hour in the car that Cool 96 Point 9 Returned to it's oldies format, slipping a CD aircheck of Hoyle Dempsey on the ex-WKQL...

Naw, he wants Miss Barbra (sp??) on 92.1. I got a short aircheck of her where the product was a traveling salesman's pack up your freezer meat combo package. Through cool edit I got a clear shot of the word (chicken) breast, and reinserted it through parts of the pitch she gave. It's straight out Hilarious... fun courtesy of the great folks at Dubyajayexxorrrh. 92.1 for the few folks that have that newfangled digital tuning displays. I want one.

Since you are such an expert may I suggest that you contact Bill Scull or Tony Renda and offer your services. I'm sure they would appreciate your help.

KOOL

Sorry- Jacksonville radio: been there/done that, had a blast.

I also doubt they could afford me.

we are not the same person and i never did say i was in total agreement on the way they did or do things. I just said that any owner wants to make the station their station not someone else station.

I find it very interesting that you slam WKQL but have said nothing about WJGL. Have you actually listened. The on-air staff is HORRIBLE and one day they sound like a classic rock and the next a soft AC. For the life of me I can't figure out what they are doing. And if the latest trends are any indication they have all ready peaked and are starting to come back to earth.

KOOL-EAGLE

I've only been down there 2x since Renda took over and I listened to Kool a lot more to see if I could get a handle on them. And, we also have not seen much exchange at all about WJGL, so to me they must not be that great or that bad.
The Eagle is what it is- Cox formula radio, not very adventurous but nothing so terrible to listen to. The little I heard, they do just kind of "sit there".
"They've already peaked"- little early to think (wish for) that. Ratings-wise,
they seem to be solid and will probably remain so.

You guys' exchange about kOOL and oldies has been a lot more fun to participate with, anyway!
