The worst commercials in TV history..

I don't particularly hate those Chevy ads, but I find them laughable. By featuring those supposed consumers who 'ooh' and 'ahh' over the new Chevy cars, and say things like "Really? This is a Chevy?" - they seem to be conceding that their cars have been uncompetitive poorly designed and built junk until recently. That would be MY opinion, but it seems a bit risky to admit it, even in that round-about way.

That was exactly my first thought as well. It also occurs to me that GM should be touting the quality of the vehicle itself and not the add-on technology but perhaps that is what appeals to Millennials. I got a real laugh out of the "radio won't work unless the seat belt is connected".

Flonase's earthshaking, overblown finding that "6 > 1 changes everything." 2 > 1, Dad has to change the diaper instead of Mom.

And yes, the debadged Chevy cars with the focus group seem laughable, with one of the faux participants making reference to her "Beemer" at home. Honorable mention for the actors giving a convincing read to bad dialogue. Their delivery almost sounds like it could be from a real focus group. OK, maybe not, but at least they're trying.

In BMW parlance a "beemer" is a motorcycle and a "bimmer" is a car. Hard to believe the owner of either would even bother to comment on a Chevy.

Although...I recently read a Motor Trend review of the new re-engineered Chevy Camaro. They absolutely loved it, and said that for any true car enthusiast, it was one of the best driving cars EVER, and every bit the equal of the BMW 3 series. So there may be some BMW drivers coming over to Chevy in the near future...at least the ones who don't need a sedan. And if I remember correctly, there is a 4 door GM equivalent badged as a Cadillac.

Are there other markets--or is it just here in Springfield--where Jerry Springer himself does local commercial promos (either for businesses sponsoring the local telecast of his sleaze-a-thon, or promos for the show itself)? The last 2-3 years Springer has done a commercial for a local used-car dealer here in Springfield (Ideal Auto Sales) on our local Fox affiliate which carries his show (WRSP-55.1). Not good IMO:

When driving on the street last Saturday afternoon where the Springfield location for this dealer is/was located, I noticed that our local Ideal Auto Sales dealer's building was vacant and the cars/signage removed. Apparently from I saw on their Facebook page they will be moving to a different location soon. But their FB page also included links to their commercials with Jerry Springer that started airing in 2013, and had run on various times on our local station that carries his sleaze-a-thon during the lunch hour (WRSP-55.1 Fox here in Springfield, airing Springer at noon). Even during the 9PM news. Crappy IMO.

I still wonder if other markets get local business commercials featuring Springer himself, or if Springfield/Decatur/Champaign is the oddball in this case.

Following up on my own post. The Camaro is the Motor Trend "Car of the Year." The sedan equivalent is the Cadillac ATS.

http://www.motortrend.com/news/2016-chevrolet-camaro-is-the-motor-trend-car-of-the-year/

Now back to our regular program, "The Worst Commercials in TV History..."

Motor Trend has been in Detroit's back pocket for decades. They are totally unreliable as a source for objective evaluation of motor vehicles. Better to use Car and Driver (although they tend to be biased on performance vehicles).

More recently the Phoenix ads for the Chevy Silverado are pointless. I am referring primarily to the one where the craftsmen are given a choice of manual or power saws and asked to cut a plank. Obviously they all choose the power saw with the message being "the right tool for the job". I don't think I heard one single mention of any attribute of the truck except its looks (which all tradesmen know is the most important reason to buy it).

NATIONAL TV - Not really a whole lot

LOCAL TV = One name comes to mind - FRANK AZAR !!! He's a local attorney who has his clients appear on TV testifying as to how much they got (Which of course he later says he can never guarantee in every case) & that EVERYTHING he says is TRUE

When I hear that, I just think Yeah - One needn't look any further than YOUR BANK ACCOUNT, which has a check from Mr. Azar FOR YOUR APPEARANCE IN HIS TV COMMERCIALS - DUMBASS

If only you could hear how sarcastic I get when I see his commercials on TV :D lol

Cheers & 73 :)

Ah yes..yes..YES Frank Azar !! Horrible commercials !! One thing about Azar I have always wondered about...does he even pay for those ads ?? Reason I ask is that many years ago I worked at a King Soopers supermarket in Aurora ( not far from the Century movie theater where that massacre took place ). The late Rick Barber from KOA radio used to shop at our store quite often ( he was still on the radio at the time ). One time Rick came in to get a video movie membership but was actually turned down. Not sure why but Mr. Barber went off at the teenage clerk screaming lots of dirty words making a BIG scene. It didn't help that the clerk didn't know who KOA was much less Rick Barber. Anyway Rick takes out his cell phone and threatens to call FRANK AZAR to sue the store. Needless to say all of the King Soopers management at the store showed up quickly and gave Barber a membership card no questions asked and sends the young employee home. I asked our store manager about this and she told me that they did the right thing since Azar is the THE lawyer for all of Denver media and King Soopers really doesn't want to mess with Frank Azar. I wonder just how true that really was. I guess there could had been some truth to that at least as I do remember hearing some of the jocks on Alice 105.9, KOOL 105 and even KYGO in the past saying on the air how that Azar was their attorney. Hmmmmmmmm

Still too many...
Chevy's focus groups - "You can only answer in EMOJIS" and the one where the dimwit "real people, not actors, yeah right" don't know they are in the back of a trailer driven by a Silverado. These people are idiotic, I can't stand the main host, and they are saturating our TV viewing...airing these commercials every 15 minutes with a new one every couple of weeks!

Progressive - Hate the "Dizzcounts" w/ Joey Fatone. Why do we need a lame boy band to advertise insurance?

Entresto and that horrible singing of "The Sun'll Come Out Tomorrow." Really...do I need to see a pasty black guy's body in the shower singing "Tomorrow! Tomorrow!"? Annoying as hell!

Charter Spectrum came out with another horrible rap ad...some white guy rapping about his TV service and his cat, it was an instant mute for me. A couple of weeks ago they were running it at least 10 times a day. They've faded away from the rapper and replaced it with three singers and a beatboxer doing a pop tune about Charter's triple play. Still annoying, but better than this rap ad that came out.

Jimmy John's - Some girl screaming "Freaky FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSST" at the top of her lungs for 15 seconds straight. Someone slap her and make her shut up!

Is there a thread for Worst Radio Commercials?

There is one running here in Pittsburgh that drives me absolutely up the wall.
Phil Bourque, ex-Pittsburgh Penguin and longtime member of their radio broadcast crew,
promoting a clinic that treats erectile dysfunction.

"High Sticking is a no-no on the ice, but a MUST in the bedroom!"

Yeeeesh!! Really, Old Two-Niner? Mario's not paying you enough?

Attorney commercials - generally for the "ambulance chasing" breed - are some of the worst. I recall the commercials in the 90s for Hyatt Legal Services. Joel Hyatt lived here in the SF Bay Area, so I assumed his commercials were local, but I just Googled him and found out they were national. Go figure. They featured a slick and ultra-sincere sounding Hyatt and ended with the catch phrase - "I'm Joel Hyatt, and you have my word on it!"

He had political clout, and was appointed to at least one California state job by Gray Davis - the Governor who was recalled and replaced by the Governator. Then Hyatt tried to run for elective office, but the voters weren't buying it.

Hyatt ran unsuccessfully for US Senate in Ohio after his father in law, Howard Metzenbaum, retired from his Senate seat after about 125 years. He does get points for having better hair than Ohio's current kings of injury law, Elk & Elk.

Edited to add a fun fact: Wikipedia (ducks while shoes are thrown at me) says Joel Hyatt was Al Gore's partner in Current TV.

There is like 4 or 5 commercials with the same creepy lady talking about suing people for...lets see
-the Johnson & Johnson thing (baby powder)
-one about Nexium
-Did you have chemotherapy and now your hair wont grow back?

They are played ad nauseum on Cozi, Laff, Decades for sure. I'll have to go through my episodes of shows recorded on Laff and Cozi to see what products I missed

You can just about bet that everything advertised on a digisub is either a rip-off or someone trying to clear out a warehouse of crap that didn't sell any other way.

Example: MyPillow (advertised on our Fox O&O as well as on digis) - A normal store bought pillow from Sears or Target costs between $6-$20. MyPillow is of the same construction and sells for $57 BUT WAIT - if you order right now you get a second pillow free (just add shipping and handling). A typical scam.

What?!?!? You don't take medical advice from law firms? Surely you can't be serious! :D

I have to disagree with the My Pillow. Its the only pillow I will use...others are junk!
A My Pillow is NOT the same as a "store bought pillow"....because I've tried "store bought pillows" and they dont work.

My Pillow is actually made here in Minnesota and it must be doing good as Mike (Lindell...the inventor) is going to open a 2nd warehouse for production next door to the existing one.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Pillow
Now dont get me wrong...the guy is seriously nuts (I worked for MyPillow right after the infomercial was launched)...now just because I worked for them (I no longer do) my opinion of MyPillow has nothing to do with me formerly working in the call center. Most of his upper management is his family (that he hires and fires on a whim). His niece (VP of customer service) he has fired.....last I heard 7 times...and within a couple weeks she is back

And they have various versions of the pillow (depending on how much filling is in it). Dont knock it unless you tried it ;)
