The worst commercials in TV history..

BRNout said:
Honestly, the creepy king, the fighting chicken, etc. are not appetizing in the least.

Don't forget Herb the Nerd from the '80s. ::)

Then again, nor is BK's food. None of it entices me into going to a Burger King for lunch. McD's kicks their a**es in every way - from the ads to the food. So, for the category of worst overall series of ad campaigns, BK wins in a landslide.

The only thing edible at BK in the last 10 years has been the Whopper. If they change that, they're toast.

True, though more than half the time I swear it's been rewarmed in the microwave. A far cry from how it used to taste when fresh.

Bad ads and bad food to match. Is it any wonder that Mickey D's is absolutely killing BK in market share?

I remember the days when the food there was fresh. My first job in high school was putting the burgers on the flame and flipping them before passing them along the line to my classmates, who put them on the buns with fresh everything on them.

And they were great back then. The Whopper is honestly one of the last things of value offered by the King. When you're fortunate enough to get a fresh one, they can still be tasty. But it seems like all I've gotten lately were nuked and rewarmed. Anyone can tell the difference.

And need we even get into a discussion of the fries? On that one, Ronald McDonald slaughters the Creepy King with one white-gloved hand tied behind his back! BK's fries are just awful.......

I don't think the negative ads so much "confuse" the voters, as it convinces them that every candidate is a corrupt, immoral money-wasting scum-bag. I think these ads contribute to the growing cynicism and hate of politicians and government in general. It's really too bad, because there are some really honorable and intelligent people in politics

Haven't we been hoping for more truth in advertising? ;D

Finally I complain about a bad classic TV commercial for a change (although I won't rule out another bump on this post tomorrow during the NFL if the commercials permit). This would I would put in the "scare factor" category: this '50s Camay commercial that has been posted onto YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4E6eZSXZ94&feature=related

The song and the "shadows" setting (plus the face of the woman staring right at you at the beginning) is enough to give you chills, IMO.

Not even a half-hour after bumping up this thread, while watching Nebraska-Texas A&M on my local ABC affiliate (WICS), there was a new TitleMax commercial. The impression I had was that it made title loans seem like "free money" with hip-hop-esque music in the background--that is, before the fine print kicks in and you're looking at sky-high interest and repayment rates if you don't get your title loan paid off in time.

The TitleMax commercials have annoyed me for a long time. One of their latest ads that have aired for the past year is on YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC-f6aLWqYc

But there was an even more annoying TitleMax commerical back in 2006 that has also appeared on YouTube--dancing, "magic money" and all:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekm3MOcZe3U&feature=related

I saw this ad yet again while being a hostage viewer here in Springfield, IL to the "Brett Favre Show" on Fox today (Packers-Vikings) when I would have thought we would have had the Rams-Falcons late game instead, but the latest Allstate ad with the man riding on the windshield of a reckless driver (apparently on his way to a college football game) probably ranks up there with the worst, IMO. Not on Youtube yet, however.

And I also thought of this when seeing a promo for tonight's Fox lineup starting at 7/6 CT even with the Rams game and two other Fox late games still on the plate:

I'll also nominate for my WORST commercial list any and all local/national commercials during about 2004-2006 (plus/minus a few years) that were broadcast in between the conclusion of the late Fox NFL game/postgame and the opening theme of shows like "Simpsons," "Malcolm in the Middle," "King of the Hill," etc., and between the intros and the infamous disclaimer along the lines of "Due to the late game we will now be joining this episode of [insert title here] in progress."

Add "Magic Jack" to the offender's list -- especially the 15 second version that begins "We now offer phone service for $19.95 a year", using the logo and look of a dealer selling "Magic Jack". One time, when I was watching a program on Spike TV, four of these short Magic Jack ads played in a row -- each one featuring a different retailer logo and color scheme -- one with a CVS logo, another with Radio Shack, then Best Buy, then Walgreen's, etc.

In case you're wondering (and in case it's being shown in your market too), the new TitleMax commercial in question I saw Saturday night was the one where something to the extent of "More Mon . . . More Money" was being sung in the background.

Apologies for my being a little late to this movie, but my all time "bad commercial" is one I remember from the mid 1960s.

Aqua Velva or some other after-shave type product.

The announcer chirped in with this logic..... "It's not soap, so it can't burn your skin"

In the words of my otherwise forgotten high school math teacher....."Hell, the stuff could be nitric acid! That's not soap either!"

I am also absolutely SICK OF these recent commercials (with YouTube links to the ads below):

--The Amazon Kindle "Fly Me Away" ad: it makes me think of throwing something at the TV every time I see and hear that ad.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj5Jr0QWNMA

I was hoping I would never hear that stupid "Fly Me Away" song (lyrics or instrumental) after this summer, but tonight I was sadly proven wrong--an instrumental version was playing during a new Amazon Kindle for Android spot that I just saw this evening for the first time.

Viagra sales pitches go from bad to worse, and now they say, "Stop living in the shadows". Where have we heard that before?

Is it Viagra or Levitra where as soon as "the mood" strikes, all of the walls and furniture flip over - revealing some *romantic* paradise where the guy is supposed to do his old lady? Those ads are sooooooo bad! Just laughable.

Why, oh why, hasn't someone at SNL just ripped on those?

The commercial for NFL Women's Wear-or whatever they call themselves-with wives or girlfriends throwing their jerseys to their hubbys or boyfriends while the tune "You Don't Own Me" is heard over the scenes.

On the subject of "bad" commericals..has anyone seen this.....

The so-called "ex-gay" group Exodus International using the Brady Bunch and their song "Time To Change".

The ad is more/less showing people dancing around and such only to have the ads flash across the screen such things as.. "David Dolan, Stephens City, Virginia ....I was gay until 1:33am July 1st, 1996 " while dancing to the Brady Bunch "Time To Change". I saw this on You Tube recently however I had taken this as a joke however yesterday I heard that this very same "ad" had actually aired on a few OTA television stations.

If so I am surprised Exodus Internation could get away with it considering with Paramount's copyrights and/or whatnot.

...also considering Robert Reed's homosexuality...
