The WORST Radio Station IN THE WORLD

This is one countdown category MSNBC's Keith Olberman may have missed, but it's worthy of note to local radio geeks. The dubious award has got to go to WWBW-LP 96.9, licensed to Higganum, CT but way out of range of that town, actually 25 miles to the east in the southeast corner of Norwich. It's been stunting with either poor quality or barely decipherable music for months and months. Just down the road from this 100-watt noncomm's stick, the signal gets serious interference from WHBE on Long Island since that station's move to 96.9. Even where it can be heard, like Mohegan Sun, every song has a delay meaning everything gets a replay in seven seconds while the original track plays. It's a big jumble of sound.

I have no idea who's running this show, but is this somebody's idea of a joke? Even during the fall of Saigon, a local station managed to continue their music on automation when the Communists took over. Distorted travelers information AM's, elementary school LP-FM's and stations in third world countries that regularly lose power have got nothing on this blowtorch. Is it that tough to put something intelligible on the air?

WWBW-LP Norwich? Higganum? The WORST Radio Station IN THE WORLD!

> Frightening...sounds like the repeater on the show LOST that was on the first couple of shows-it just repeated a message with a sequential number in an endless loop. Wonder if someone forgot about it????

This is a TV example, but in Hartford, WHCT-LP 38 in Hartford has been known to display a silent black screen with their ID on it for weeks at a time, it's like nobody pays attention to it at all. Very sad to see absentee owners who just don't care. If I had a station, I'd be checking on it 24/7!

I agree, WWBW sounds like s**t, must be someone playing radio....
Edited by Modulation Man on 04/14/06 05:34 AM.

An email to them went unanswered and ignored.. what a surprise.

The people on their "Board" live in Higganum, more then 10 miles from the transmiter.. i wonder if thats ill-legal??
