The X 88.9 vs. G Rock

Has anyone in Monmouth County found that during normal format hours, Monmouth University's X 88.9 is a great alternative when G Rock becomes stale.

I have to admit that G Rock is pretty tight music-wise, but WMCX seems to have grown into a more formatically stable station that I think could be more competitive with a better signal. Of course then again, it's easy to program an alternative station when you don't need to worry about advertisers.

Any thoughts, or does no one really care at all?... haha

It all comes down to taste. WMCX has an excellent variety, but the downside of the format is that they play a lot of obscure music and often don't sell it. G Rock, on the other hand, has great presentation, and the music is great as well, assuming you are aboard the current teen pop bandwagon and haven't tired of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Evenflow" yet.

They both have their positives and negatives, but the fresh sound of 88.9 is what I would choose if I could pull them in. This area really needs a station that is a happy medium between these two format - similar to the old WJSE (without the Classic Rock songs) or the late lamented WDOX in South Jersey. That's a station that could capture the attention of all the Modern Rock fans in the market. Those who like the sounds of X 88.9, G Rock and FM 106.3 would all tune in to a format like this.
