BTW please dont think by my post that I do not believe in a college education. It is very important. I just dont remember learning a lot about things such as AQH, TSL, Cume, target demographics and how to crunch those numbers to find out where you truly are in your market and how that needs to be sold to advertisers. I didnt get the coaching to be a top rated air personality in my market, I learned that from veteran Pds with great coaching skills and werent afraid to tell me to pipe down. I didnt learn the ins and outs like I did from ppl like McVay, Cook, Land or Bill McElveen(former NAB President) who was one of the great GMs I got to work for.

The key is finding the right school that will teach the proper tools to succeed in this. School will not cut your teeth in all of this of course some of that comes from working in this tightly leveraged industry. That is becoming harder to do in the day and age of voice tracking, its not just about being a DJ anymore but how to succeed at the whole game.

And, Rich, you hit my point squarely on the head. There are so very few schools in this area...and nationwide that teach the proper tools, knowledge and survival skills. Most 4 year college programs in this area...and in this part of Ohio are a total waste of time.

Doodical, Jeff Stevens is Mornings/OM/PD at WMMX. Shaun Vincent is MD/afternoons at WMMX. Also, Sandy Collins is at 95.3 The Eagle doing mornings. B.C. obviously is at Main Line as Production Director. You should know that, being he works in the same building as you!
ljo, Mix is all live/local except for Cindy Spicer from PC(I believe she's piped in from San Diego). Jeff, Kristi Leigh, and Dave Alexander mornings 5:30-10A, Cindy(PC)10A-1P, Shaun 1-7P, and Doreen 7-Midnight. Also, Taylor is live/local 10A-3P Saturdays.

@Alan316, I'm not sure where you get that I work at Mainline? I do not work in radio, just an avid fan of it. I am a tech for AT&T (not the mobile phone) But thank you for the compliment :)

And, so...what makes you think you're such a radio expert?

@Jason, if you read what I wrote to Alan..."I am an avid fan"! I said nothing about the station that would even lead you to believe I was an expert? Just questions about past employee's

Let's just say that if the "play obscure music and you'll be number one crowd is right, I would expect huge numbers from WNKU in Dayton and Cincinnati
borderblaster, you're right on the money here. There's nothing wrong with playing an obscure song during a lunch hour request-type show, as long as it was once a hit, or even a minor hit, and ONLY within your lunch hour request show. However, a 4,000 song music library full of unfamiliar music isn't going to win over the masses. I've tried flipping on WNKU a couple times and not once have I heard something even remotely familiar...and I turned the station. Any PD or MD that has been at a station long enough or knows their market should know by a gut feeling what the audience wants and what they don't want. Sometimes a gut feeling works best, and other times testing is the correct way to go. As a fan of radio, it's too bad that more stations don't use a Rate The Music-type survey, at least in Dayton. I know Q102 sends out a survey every so often(I just did one last week). Not sure if any other stations in Cincy use a RTM-like tool or not.

@Lovejammin....Not unless they bought AT&T? But its funny that if someone makes comments about radio or local stations that it must mean we work or worked in radio...LOL. I just enjoy reading these posts and seeing what everyone says about radio. Sometimes its more entertaining then listening to the radio.
