The Young Guns of Talk Radio

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – There’s a perception held by many – especially those working in the consumer media – that all talk show hosts doing shows on news/talk stations are men 50 years of age or older. They further postulate that when those hosts retire (or die!) there will be no one left to work in the format.

Interesting - I wonder if young people will listen to political talk radio? What about that Piolin guy? does he appeal to a young demographic?

Beck used to claim he had the youngest demographic of syndicated hosts, I wonder if that is true?

Well that depends on what part of the country you are from. If you live in San Francisco and Washington DC the NPR affiliates during drive time would attract a college educated demographic. Or all-news radio in Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Washington DC and NYC. I say its all about the Blue State, Red State thing that the Cable Pundits talk about.

An astutue article, excepting the input from the FTL guy.

Talk does need a way to develop voices that will appeal to the younger demo or it will meet its demise.
