The Z Really Is Back

I will be the first to admit it-I had virtually no confidence that all the "hype" thrown at us from the former Kiss outlet was to be believed. The entire "The Z Is Back" campaign was almost laughable, at first. Now that I've said that I am a big enough guy to admit I was wrong. Along with many on this board, I often took to a smirk or two when reading about Z97 over the few months. It did sound like there was no energy or direction to the station--sad when you think it's a 50KW. I decidedly gave up listening to it, until now. I was in a convenience store the other morning and was waiting in line and listening to some morning show (obviously it wasn't my radio, didn't know the station) turned out it was Z97's morning show with Jackie and Vince. Shocking how much energy and, dare we say it?, FUN is coming out of the WZRT dial position!!

So now I listen....here's my opinion

The music is right on target, the imaging is also good. After the morning show, which truly drives the station right now, the jox aren't bad, middays sound solid (although I'm guessing v/t'd), haven't really heard PM drive, the guy at night isn't a good CHR fit, but not bad overall...they could use a night slammer.

I think, given time, this station will see it's former luster and then some -- kudos to the PD and Pamal, you have all proven me wrong.
 
Wow really!! Let's see...First post... You don't happen to work for.....No don't ask, don't ask. Why not? You don't just happen to work for Z... Do you???? There, I said it.
 
No, but nice try. Hey there's a first time for everything isn't there? Lemme guess, you DON'T work for them? I'm actually a CC guy, there I said it.
 
Certainly they have a morning show that's a become very entertaining, and I wish "Jackie" and "DJ Vince 1" a lot of success. I thought the 'one hit wonders' they played the other morning was very well done, noticed a lot of songs from the 80's and 90's ?? Whether it's corporate approved or not, there seems to be some good creativity flowing. Perhaps Pamal should save the bucks and keep the Z 97 and WSYB studios right where it is on Dorr Drive and stay out of the "Merchant's Row Madhouse".

The night guy would probably sound better on WEBK or Cat Country, seems a bit mellow for the format.. A good night slammer that knows the drill would really seal the deal within the palatial Dorr Drive estate..
 
I'm no longer in VT, how does the imaging sound? Are they still using the same background song for the weather without any voiceover? I remember even when they flipped to KISS, it would go from commercial straight to dj talk about the weather with weak music in the background. Silly, but i observe that kind of stuff.
 
Z97 seems to be the station everybody loves to hate. Understandable considering some of the history. However, hate them or not, they seem to be moving in the right direction, given what they have been given to work with, it's pretty admirable.

Quite the opposite...Z97 was once the powerhouse of the Rutland market...the station to "beat"...constantly fighting with WJJR for the top spot...many of us here want Z to excel...return to its glory days...from what I've heard lately, I sense hints of the mighty Z's return..we will see...I doubt it though..since the ineptitude of the Gilligan Crew will most likely keep it down. Pamal Rutland will do nothing...NOTHING...to push Z to the edge it needs to be at. Hopefully, or the Z crew, the Professor and the Bear will stay in bed and let the Z grow on its own.
