The Zone 96.7 now Oldies

1) What eras are they encompassing? Is Kenny playing pre-1964 stuff, or will I hear "Heart of Glass?"

2) The Zone's website still says that they broadcast on 96.7. That's strike two on the websites.

DOT FM? I know those are heritage Burlington calls and I know K.B. was one of their jocks back in the day... Are they going to try and work a deal to get the actual call letters from Northeast, since they're currently parked on The Point's 95.7 St. J stick?

The music is lot's of 70's upbeat...some 60's and maybe early 80's (played "What I About You"). KB was live taking calls. It was fun to listen to a station with personality and no liner card readers. I wonder where the Limbaugh listeners will go..the 960AM signal isn't great in Vermont.

Does the Zone still have the Patriots contract up there? How will WBCN feel about losing an FM affiliate?

I'd like to see the Wizard go after the Patriots. That would make them relevant again.

From what i hear Pats are staying put and they are keeping wxzo calls. Just never using them except in a small id i hear in stopsets. They are positioning the station as true Oldies 96.7 DOT-FM and saying the legend is back. i saw a full page ad in the free press today. lots of white space and just two lines...1 at top: this morning at 9am... one in middle of page: the Legend is back. Then color logo at the bottom of page. effective.

Thanks for telling me what the calls are, Ray. I found the website at 967dotfm.com. They have a streaming link. I'll have to check them out tomorrow. I'll have to take back my last post about the Zone website, but that should really be taken down.

I'm just curious as to how many people left in Burlington remember the old WDOT. When did the original station sign off?

I'm listening to the stream today. Ken sounds like he's having the time of his life on the air. I forgot how much he sounds like Dale Dorman. I was waiting for him to end the last break with "hi, mom!"

Not big on the reverb, though. That's a little too "boss jock" for me.

Going to www.thezonefm.com now brings you to a "shared" site with the weekday line-ups for DOT-FM and The Zone. Also, I noticed the 1320 reference for Randolph is no longer present anywhere.
Quick quiz: How many knew Ken Barlow used to be on WDOT-AM back in the day? Raise your other hand.

I was wondering the same thing. They were a graveyard channel AM for crying out loud, probably barely covered the city proper at night when they had to cut back to 250W. Hardly a regional giant like KB or WPTR (and we all know how well those two did when they were "reincarnated" a few years back).

Probably no one. Those small market Top 40s were pretty much a revolving door of generic jocks. The good ones moved on to bigger markets after 6 months to a year, the ones that weren't so good got a "real job".

I disagree with you OB. There were lots of smaller signal stations in markets like Burlington that people remember. just because they aren't 50kw stations doesn't mean they weren't a huge part of people lives in their area. they were saying that there were times when the old wdot had a 50 share in burlington. granted less radio then but still impressive. i also came from the area and many of the jocks stayed in the business and became names. i am betting that quite a few people remember both wdot and barlow and the other jocks. sure sounds like it when you listen to their stream and hear the callers.

I may not have known of Ken during his days at WDOT, too young then I suppose lol, but I sure as heck remember him from the Ken and Christie show on Q106 as I was going to school on the bus in like 3rd-6th grade I think. ;D

By the way, I've posted some new stuff at "my" site: http://nh_radiochild.voices.com if anyone's keen to listen to what I've done recently.

Loved not hearing liner cards. Hearing a dude just playin' music and talkin' with the people about whatever. I guess that breaks some format "rules" or something. I think it's great... but I'm just an idiot.

Spent the weekend in Burlington at my parent's lake house. Listened to this new station a lot. The thing that struck me was the passion the personalities had. I believe this is what people were talking about was lacking in the Point in another thread.

Give the PD of this station some credit. He knows what he is doing.
