The Zone down?

Down here in Groves this morning im picking up a Sunny 106.9?? BTW I dont know if its just me or since the flip to the Zone the signal isnt as strong down here in the Beaumont/Port Arthur area.

Tuning around yesterday at my Cy-Fair location I noticed the KHPT signal seemed much weaker than normal, so it is possible they are having transmitter issues.

For the past few months there's been an issue causing random dropouts of the audio (but not the signal - it just goes silent). This probably has to do with the T1/AT&T they mentioned earlier. I always thought they used some kind of microwave link between the studio and the transmitter, but maybe that's just TV stations.

Coincidentally it also seems as if the transmitter is slowly losing power, every day it seems to be just a bit worse. I don't get stereo anymore on the iPod dock.

Hopefully they get these things worked out soon. It seems like The Zone is finally starting to gain some momentum. I wonder what the ratings are.

Yes they are having transmitter issues their Facebook page said so the other day.

Wonder if this is the same unit that Salem installed in 1998 when (then) KKHT moved to the Splendora tower? Of course, it could be any number of things that could go wrong.

[EDIT-Quote removed for TOS violations]

When they're on their auxilliary transmitter site, they won't hit Beaumont, but they'll still cover Houston.

Every place I've worked at has had a backup transmitter, but very few have backup sites like the stations do in this town.

A lot of stations still use microwave studio to transmitter link, but I would imagine being that the studio is in the galleria area and xmitter facility is waaaay out in Splendora, a T1 link is probably better suited for that kind of distance.

RDS is back for me.

Same here, and it seems the audio problems have been fixed. What's the report from Beaumont?

Beaumont reporting here - audio much better, along with stronger signal seems to be apparent. Either that, or atmospheric conditions are better?

No stan, I think it's back to normal. Last night the conditions were right to bring KLUB-Bloomington/Victoria up this way, making me think that KHPT was at reduced power or on the back-up. As close as I am to the KHPT stick, I shouldn't get anything but Conroe's KHPT. Today, everything seems to be back to normal as The Zone has been strong all day while I have been piddling around town.

106.9 the zone did ok going to up around Cameron, until a religious broadcaster takes over on the same channel, by that time I'm checking out 106.7 Doc-FM KDRW, also fighting it out with other stations on that channel going up towards Ft. Hood. Doc's xmtr is close to Hewitt, still at a considerable distance
