Even then, Nielsen will be trying over and over to proportionally sample that cell as they recruit new PPM panelists. As soon as they find better proportionality, your high TSL fan will not be weighted up. And the new panelists in the same demo cell may not like your station. Here’s the dirty little secret about PPM:
You get one person who really loves you on the panel and they happen to be in an undersampled demo cell?
You’ll really miss them when they finally cycle out of the panel. But you will ride that train as long as you can.
I participated a few years ago (not in radio then or now). Did the diary thing. Then we got a follow-up with all kinds of consumer questions. This year we got contacted again with another dollar. Went through the survey but couldn't upload. They could have disqualified us in the demographic questions instead of not accepting the completed surveyFun side note...I got a letter from Nielsen last week. It asked "have you ever wondered how radio, television, and other media companies decide what shows to broadcast or cancel?"
Enclosed in the envelope was a fresh, crisp American dollar. I'm still waiting for a "Nielsen research representative" to call me back and offer me even more money to participate in a "short telephone survey." Up for grabs is an "additional small cash gift." Is it going to be a fiver?
What to do...what to do...
This tells me that a lot of people checked it out due to the novelty of it, and attention The Zone received from the whole A.I. DJ thing. They might hold on to that .01 share but the cume will probably be a lot lower next PPM.In the February ratings that just came out KZONHD2 for its first month got a .01 rating and had 46,000 listeners.
I personally don't see their schtick lasting long-term. Most people are already fed up with companies rapidly pushing AI to replace humans in an already declining job market. Not to mention, the format isn't exactly unique either. It's just a mishmash of other much more successful stations' playlists. Maybe Zelus ought to lease out this translator like they did with K241BQ 96.1, or perhaps they would be better off bringing Power 98.3 back to the East Valley? This tells me that a lot of people checked it out due to the novelty of it, and attention The Zone received from the whole A.I. That's the thing. The music mix isn't awful. It's the whole "AI-infused" thing which is turning off listeners. I mean, if someone wants to listen to an AAA station with some human element, they could go out of market and stream a station. There are plenty of them, commercial or non-commercial/"listener supported," that do a good job format-wise, even if they aren't "local" to you.I personally don't see their schtick lasting long-term. That happened to me in 2014 I filled out some thing for a buck and mailed it in...This is before Nielsen bought arbitron and they called me and asked me I be interested in this and they came out hooked this thing up to.my TV to.monitor what I was watching. Didn't pay much but it was something...Two years was the limit. But have never done it for radio.Fun side note...I got a letter from Nielsen last week. I'm not too enthused by the idea of having an AI replicate my own voice, but to each their own I suppose 🤷♂️It took me a couple of weeks to catch up with this, but Nichole is out, Mimi is in.

very true, I have 3 aaa stations here in Denver, KBCO for commercial and Indi 102.3 and KJAC 1055 the Colorado Sound for noncommercial stations. That's the thing. The music mix isn't awful. I'll bet Nicole decided having an A.I. clone of her on the radio, was not a good career move, or maybe has found a better gig.It took me a couple of weeks to catch up with this, but Nichole is out, Mimi is in.
Well there's the rub. They don't want to pay enough. Long gone are the days of "I'm not even cracking the mic for X amount and charging extra for retakes and new tags every couple of weeks."Well, in the world where money is king, if you paid me enough, I'll let you use my voice in whatever way you wanted to, regardless of my personal preferences.
Sandler only agreed to have her voiced clone as a favor to Dennis Constantine, and not like she was enthusiastic about the idea. I take it her fans didn't like what they heard.I'll bet Nicole decided having an A.I. clone of her on the radio, was not a good career move, or maybe has found a better gig.
It's a shame really. Their playlist is actually really good all things considered.Honestly, I like everything about the station except the robojock breaks.
Unfortunately, that's the part that they're the most interested in.
