The Zone Signal

Is it just me or has anyone notice the zones signal, i got off interstate in brentwood and as soon as i did the signal broke up so bad that it was like when you got out of range on a signal but I know the signal is better than that...any thoughts...just curious

You must have been on OHB by Maryland Farms. It's them there hills that block the heck out of 104.5, 97.1, 96.3, etc.
There's a few nulls so good there that even 92.9's weak in a spot or two. Funny, 105.9, 103.3 and 97.9, etc. seem to come
in loud and clear from those towers you can see about the same time you can't hear the others.

but that was first time it has happened through there and ive been going same route for a year maybe just a fluke day signal wise and you might be right bout the hills out there

It may be a power issue, like Citadel was not able to pay the power bill after George's new contract. If they'd
have flipped to AC they'd been fine (just joking, referring to other posts.) I've always noticed problems through
there (especially on Maryland Way near Granny White.) But, you can get a few Huntsville and Chattanooga
stations there with a decent signal.

Speaking of Citadel, why has the top tower light been burned out for over a month on the WKDF tower. I
think it's their responsiblity? I have to give it to CC, they fix the SIX lights within 48 hours on both towers.
Not trying to be to geeky or anything, but those towers are so obvious that you can't help but notice.

There was some major dx ing going on yesterday. I would say that's all it was.

It sounds like there were propogation issues Thursday. I know it affected WSIX and WVNS. By the way, the towers on OHB belong to Channel 2- the new tower was erected to support the WKRN and WNPB digital antenna. WSIX is just a tenant . The beacon on the top of the Johnson Chapel Road tower ( co-owned by Citadel, CC and Nashville Public Radio) is in the process of being repaired. The WNRQ/WKDF compined antenna is in the process of being replaced.

and...WZYP Huntsville (Athens) puts signal that can be heard from Franklin
on to the south: if any DX conditions existed...WZYP at 104.3 would walk all over WGFX.

Trust me there was some major dx ing. In Clarksville WNOX from Knoxville was walking all over 100.3 out of Hopkinsville. WAMZ 97.5 from Louisville was drowning out WZZP 97.5. I also caught Miss98 from Maridian MS. A buddy of mine was hearing WFLA from Tampa loud and clear. All of this was Wenesday night into Thursday mid-morning.

Miss 98 on 97.5 is in Oxford. But here in Pleasant View, 97 OKK from Meridian was coming in way over WRQQ on 97.1.

Yikes, Tampa? Excellent. I had plenty of strong Mobile/Pensacola signals - and sure was looking for stuff further into Florida - but didn't hear any. I've never heard anything south of Ocala except by sporadic-E.

I have been able to pick up ZYP, WKXD (Cookeville (Monterey) and WSKZ (Chattanooga) on Franklin
Road, OHB and Cool Springs almost daily for years. Dxin was incredibly strong this past week, though.

The seven hills terrain feature in southern Davidson County is the a problem for VHF signals coming from the northern sites and the shadows from that go all the way to Franklin and beyond. To give you a perspective, if you are standing on the hill where ch-2, 8 and 97.9 is located; your feet are about the same level as the top of the L&C tower down town. Regarding band conditions, 97.1 was completely obliterated by someone Thursday morning. I don’t remember conditions ever being this active or frequent. The Nashville area is not the worst but one of the worst for FM propagation due to the terrain and temperature inversions. Everybody has a signal problem somewhere, you just try to limit it to unpopulated zip codes where you can. This was a prime consideration for the placement of the WKDF, WNRQ(WLAC-FM) and WPLN jointly owned facility in Brentwood back in the early 1980’s.
