The Zone's Triple H Answer

Bring Triple H back if this is what you're going to do! They are replaying the best of, including PHONE CALLERS! The Zone has always been a little lazy and replayed interviews regularly, but this takes the cake! Playing back phone caller segments! Triple H was at least live and topical. One would have to think they have someone they could plug in for an hour or two to talk sports.
______________

They played a best-of of what? Triple H? Wake-Up Zone? Rome?
______________

I agree 100%. Why even make a change if you don't have anything in place to replace HHH with other than a repeat of a couple of hours of the Wake-Up Zone? Even if the Zone does have someone in mind for the 9-11 am spot, why not wait until this person is ready and able to take to the airways before getting rid of HHH? It's beginning to look like it was more HHH's decision to leave than the Zone's.

The Wake-Up Zone. Actually, I think it was more of a repeat of a couple of hours of this morning's Wake-Up Zone than a best of. Also, Jim Rome came on at 11:00 am, as usual.
Edited by jwk1979 on 08/08/05 04:25 PM.

They're taking advantage of the fact they have a lot of P1's. Seems to me they think everybody is going to keep listening no matter what they do, and they just don't give a damn.

I've been saying this since day 1. The Zone has all the potential in the world, they just have a bunch of idiots running the show with no idea how to tap that potential.
______________

The extension to 10 a.m. was fine. However, the replay hour from 10-11 seemed quite temporary to me. There was no repurposing of the material, no board op acting as host, and no "Wake-Up Zone Replay Hour" IDs.

Now I don't mind "Here's an interview we replayed earlier this morning," I don't mind overnight replays, and I'd certainly rather hear a repurposed replay of good Zone material over Fox Sports or Rome. But the whole purpose of this hour seemed to be just a bridge until Rome. Could the idea of dumping Rome only have been wishful thinking, and 104.5 may really be strapped by its parent into a must-carry for Rome? Talk about driving people to your competitor. The Rome show doesn't play well here. In fact, it's obvious he's not even interested because so much of the time there seems to be a guest host on.

We can only hope the person who is going to have a 10 a.m. local show on the Zone is stuck in contract negotiations. Or maybe someone from the Zone won't leave us in the dark and let us know what is going on.

Understatements of the year, Bob. They seem to almost love running
listeners off. I threw my hands up long ago. I could see a bunch
of men messing up a female-oriented lite rock station, but sports?
Citadel's new FM sports talker WNML (Sports Animal) in Knoxville just came out with better numbers on their first book (trend) than the Zone. I sure thought Citadel had the edge on Cumulus here, but what has happened? The Fan is almost
worth trying to listen to, some. They need at least three listeners.

What trend are you looking at?

Uh, Tibbs...? Re: The Zone's Triple H Answer

Could you try these statements again? Either something didn't come out right, or I don't understand what you mean. "Citadel's new FM sports talker"... do you mean the one in Knoxville? And how does that bring about a comparison with Cumulus? I'm not dogging you, I just want to try to understand the statement you're making.

Re: Uh, Tibbs...? Re: The Zone's Triple H Answer

Jetfli,

I have tried to make sense of what did not make sense on my
post above by editing it. Thanks for pointing out that I left
the most important information out. I think it makes sense
now. Maybe. Guess I was just bored to tears by the Zone when
I was posting! Take care!

Thanks, tibbs. I thought that might be where you were heading, but from another post, it was clear some others weren't quite sure of what you were saying, and before I responded, I wanted to make sure I did.

What I would say in reply is that first and foremost Knoxville doesn't have the same type of competitive market Nashville has. And there's a bit of skewing going on in their first book in that the station's flagship show was still appearing on 100,000 watt WNOX during this period, as well as the Animal, so we can't be sure we can totally trust the diary interpretation on that one. Also during this period, they had all live, local programming between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., and now they're saddled with Fox and Rome from 10-3, which will probably kill their good numbers in that daypart. Let's wait until next book before we make this comparison.

Hey inthedark, Re: The Zone's Triple H Answer

>

I'm starting my day with gratitude, as HHH taught me, as I can say I'm grateful that the Zone didn't choose to go with Fox Sports or a Rome replay hour from the previous day during the 10-11 a.m. hour. What's your opinion? You think the Zoners have something else up their sleeve for 10-11 and beyond? Do you think they are stuck with or stuck on having Rome for all three hours, 11-2?

The question is still looming. Why ax Triple H if all your going to do is add more Mark Howard and another hour of replays. This is something Cumulus would do.
______________
