Theatre of the mind?

A co-worker brought up what he was listening to on WMMS-FM’s morning show recently. He said it was really dumb and was a waste of his time. I did not hear this, but he said it had something to do with a guest in the studio who defecated (#2) in his seat. The regulars went into loud, and outraged explanations of what was happening (ie: “Oh my God! This is gross … it smells bad… etc…). We, almost immediately, started talking about whether this was real or not. In this modern era, a number of radio shows have video access capabilities. Otherwise, since this is radio, there are no pictures.

This lead to us talking about something we both heard back in 1973-1974. It was on talk radio WERE AM/1300. He remembers that porn star Marilyn Chambers was there. I don’t remember that, but we both recall that the host(s) were saying that they were doing their show in the nude. It was funny to hear people (mostly women) calling in and being outraged about them sitting there naked. I remember thinking that since this was radio, a listener can’t see anything, so how does one know what's real or not? Theater of the mind. The outrage was a silly waste of time.

I remember listening to that show on WERE the day they did that bit. It earned them some local coverage on TV too if I remember correctly but of course they didn't show the nudity on the news
