TheHits.us Signs Off

Citing "astronomical royalty fees", GM & PD Alec Ortiz announced on 2/17/11 at 7pm ET that they can no longer continue, although he promises to be back, "bigger & better than ever". Also says to "like" them on Facebook to follow their future endeavors.
There was an earlier posting on Facebook at 9:32pm ET on Wed. 2/16/11 saying they'd be signing off.

This is actually quite sad. Thehits.us usually had over 500 combined listeners at a time for their country stations and were increasing rapidly. While I never listened to them a whole lot, they were definitely pretty good and had an awesome request system.

How long until another small network bites the dust? All royalty rates continue to increase and Pureplay rates are not a permanent solution. They are temporary and are expected to greatly rise once the agreement is up.

Well the writing is on the wall what the record companies want to do is drive everyone out of the streaming business accept their partners for whom they are more than happy to overlook royalty payments for in order to get their albums sold.....

If they can't make money of CD Sales then they are going to make it off of per play royalties or have the streaming market cornered with their own partners so it can be a for pay service.....
