I don't know why, but it seems that Transatlantic is much more open that it has been in years. Try 530 - the Turks and Caicos station is there with Spanish religious format, but the last few nights, transatlantic stations on 531 have been booming in. A sure sign that they are there is a 1 kHz heterodyne - sometimes with a beat frequency. If you hear music under the Spanish preaching - wait a while and it will eventually dominate the frequency. Probably - Switzerland or Algeria.
585 was also wide open last night --- look carefully on other split channels and you may log something.
All I was using was a modified GE Superradio 3 with its internal antenna. Switzerland / Algeria - whatever it was - sounded like a US "clear" channel a few hundred miles at times. Given the strength - I believe the whole continental US could have logged it on even modest equipment.
