There is no one at the Clear Channel table

I travelled down to Columbus today for the Columbus State University Job Fair (which was open to the public). Among the media sponsors were WTVM/9, WLGA/66, Davis Broadcasting, and Clear Channel. All of them had tables set up in order to recruit people. WTVM and Davis were there, but mysteriously absent was Clear Channel (and WLGA, but that is an entirely different story).

Question is...why sponsor a job fair...when you will not show up? (I don't think CC is hiring either).

I went looking for an IT job. I always ask around the various booths...but I was smart enought to stay away from Davis Broadcasting. I want job security. (I don't think anyone in the media was hiring for IT anyway).

Sponsoring a job fair give you big points in the EOE requirements and license renewal time.

Just keep hitting the books. Get some Cisco certs and learn a little about Macs. Knowing Linux does help plenty and remember, many firms want an administrator who can "crack open the box" (fix hardware). If you are a programmer learn about the web.

I feel your pain. I'm in an IT job but want to make more money in my trade.

Oh and unless it is the "new media" don't count on any media firms hiring right now. Broadband wireless radios cost 180.00 from what I hear. If anyone can pay 70.00 or so/mo for the service that may be your ticket. Just think, if a "decent" station streams its signal or you want to go to live365.com you can do so. Now there is the matter of people being able to afford it nowadays.

I've been trying to convince certain people that hiring me would look good on an EOE report, too ... but so far, to no avail. ;)
