I'm Shocked!!! No frigging way WHTZ is last! The ratings are flawed....They called me and I told them that I worked for "CLEAR CHANNEL COMMUNICATIONS" and the guy said "I don't care"!

They called me, I said I worked for WTHZ.. They said, "thank God, finally somone that listens to that station!! Pleeze fill out a diary, in fact, take a couple.." :D

Anybody notice there were 21 signals listed for Raleigh and 12 for Gso?

That's what I'm talking about..The survey is false and skewed..You cannot tell me for example that WSJS did not even show! Who paid for this BS..Wasn't me..Let's go back to the "Old Daz, When if you bought the "PULSE", You were #1.." Comments

I don't think the original posters of these numbers were listing every station. Since the monthlies on Greensboro are imbargoed, be thankful for what you got. I think it is realistic for both WHTZ and WSJS to not be in the top ten or 12 in the 25-54 demo. You should look at 12+ to see the true relationship. I know, 25-54 is the money demo, but you should always start with 12+ then go in to the demos. SJS would be stronger if you look at 25+ because so much of their core is over 54! I would suspect the same is true for 94.1.

38% of THZ is 54+ but 53% of SJS is 55+. THZ's problem is TSL. They are the one of the most duplicated stations in the market ... they are 9th ranked for exclusive listeners and 14th ranked in TSL. SJS TSL is 20% higher than THZ. Howvere I do agree that Arbitron has done a poor job of late ... they are too caught up in the PPM BS to take care of the bread and butter .... diary markets.

Of course there are more than 12 stations listed, but do you really care if you aren't in the at least the top 12?

WQMG for the Winter book 25-54 was 6th if you remember while Simon was 3rd.

SJS was 14th in this trend......

Remember.... this is just the firts month reported....

WTHZ is going right back to where they were in 2006. The ratings are deteriorating because of substandard leadership that just keeps destroying every format they've attempted. Tom Collins thinks he's a programming genius, which couldn't be further from the truth. He can't even run the sales department effectively. He has no respect for his sellers and they have even less respect for him. It seems that all he does all day is send out stupid cartoon e-mails to people rather than attempt to do his job. Anyone in the station will tell you the same thing. This is no secret!

Almost every format change will result in a spike in the numbers. The real trick is to keep samplers - converting them to P1s. Sharing, of course, is not always a bad thing. A station that shares will every format can often be very successful.

That's very true, Mike. The real key is to have higher ratings than those of your competition. If you can do that, you should win every time. This would involve having ratings that are higher in number than the stations that you compete against. As a result, your ratings are higher and you win. I hope that helps.

Mediawatch22 - I agree with you that the biggest problem WTHZ has is in leadership. Tom Collins is an old has-been that doesn't really understand the relationship between TSL and the ratings and continues to bluff his way through. The owner doesn't really understand ratings, so he listens to Tom. The best thing for this crew is to sell and get out of the business. Maybe Curtis could buy them. It would be a nice compliment to WSJS in Winston-Salem. Plus, they could move the sales offices to WS and be close to the action instead of stuck in the bowels of Davidson county.

 :mad:OVER MY DEAD BODY!! As long as I am living and two other people IT will NOT be sold.. I guess, I'll have to fix it..I'm too old but I will!

You don't have to be located anywhere near your audience to be highly rated- from the listener's perspective, you are as close as the radio they're listening to.

Ape, you're not kidding anybody- you'll smile and cash that check right along with the rest of 'em when the deal finally closes.....

Curtis would be the perfect owner. They've done a remarkable job of turning around a group of stations that were on the verge of going broke and made them into a powerful cluster. If they did buy WTHZ, how many of the existing management-types do you think would survive? Never mind...that was a stupid question!
