There they are....

What happens when PPM hits and TSL becomes a thing of the past?

PPM is not working well, so far! Meanwhile, TSL will remain a factor! The amount of time spent with a station is one of two key elements of the ratings regardless of the method of collection, don't you think?

Isn't TSL, diary or PPM, what it's all about, Fingar?

Mediawatch and Xtalker: Please see my previous post. It should clear all this up. In short, you will want to have higher ratings than other radio stations (your competitors). If you do this, you will have better ratings and be the winner. It's pretty clear! Thanks again. :p :'(

Huh??? I'm sensing that you don't get the relationship between TSL and the Ratings. You MUST have decent TSL to convert your Cume listeners to AQH listeners or you have NO ratings. Get it? It's pretty clear! IF you understand the relationship between the two. Xtalker is right about the fact that you can share with other stations and still have high ratings. This is because everyone has 3.2 favorite radio stations. Cume listeners (those who listen for 5 minutes or more during a given daypart) are typically shared with other radio stations. TSL is what converts those listeners to AQH that are exclusive to a specific station.

Yeah, and then read the article below and see how "effective" the arbitron system is. One book can make so much difference...makes you wonder how many people this one book represents. Bring on the PPM and bring it on NOW!

^ Greenville-New Bern-Jacksonville is over 100 miles end to end. WRSV is a 6kw station who's tower is NOT EVEN IN THE MARKET and who's coverage area maybe comes 15-20 miles inward (into Greenville basically). There are another 450,000 people in this market who have to be represented in this report some other way, and obviously aren't if one deletion can wipe WRSV out.

How many diaries are they sending out? 10? 20? One per county? I knew the diary system was flawed but good heavens... I don't think anyone thought it was this bad.

This is why selling is so different under the big corporate ownership groups than in days gone by. It is all about ratings and market size. This is a case of three very different cities (Greenville-New Bern-Jacksonville) being lumped together for ratings selling rather than each town standing on its own. It goes back to a previous discussion on this board about localism and the ability of a small station to be successful.

Want to make some money? Find some of those old time sellers who's success was based on two things - their relationship with the business, and the results delivered by previous ads.

Thata's what I am talking about too, Mike!.. It seems to me if a station such as WSJS/ WLXN/ WMFR is highly successful as AM-er's in this day and time, Why do they not continue to carry the localism throughout the day? Certainly I would think people would respond better to local news/ Weather and events rather than hearing satellte all day!

AMEN Ape.

Hey Tina...you didn't say you listened just that you worked there.
