"There You Go Again," KIRO!

Nothing like experimenting with formatics ON THE AIR. So, what happened to KIRO's 'first on the threes with traffic and weather together?' Should've thoughts things out, MR. PD, before implementing the changes. CBS News (at least the portion KIRO airs) ends at :03 or :03:30---can't really hit your traffic sounder out of the news without first teasing listener with upcoming local news, can you? By the time they got to the traffic it certainly wasn't on the three was it? Nor were the traffic reports always on the threes during Ross' PM drive show nor on the three on the half hour updates. THINK AHEAD, MR. PD!So, now it's "..710 KIRO..with more frequent traffic reports...blah blah..." More frequent than what? My gagging episodes when I listen? Even the average Joe listener had to notice the change. Another example of KIRO acting first, then..."hmmmm..that may not have been the right thing to do!"KIRO surely has lots of talented on air folks---it's just the people telling 'em what to do!Random thoughts from70Radio(I know I missed some other blunders, but someone out there will not--there's gotta be more!)

FWIW - the first part of CBS News ends exactly at :03. So a quick headline tease and you're still into traffic as advertised - so long as it's *somewhere* in the :03 minute. So much for that theory. And while I agree that it was a bit boneheaded for KIRO to try and out-KOMO KOMO, at least KIRO's smart enough to know when something failed and to drop it. Witness the abandonment of the afternoon news and - more recently - the 6PM cast.

OK, Rob, so the :03 theory may be off a few seconds (some of the teasers were quite long), why 'test' any of it on the air? Then change it a few weeks later. If you think about it, KOMO's wx on the fours was really 9 minutes ahead of KIRO's on the threes-- that's WHEN KIRO actually hit the three.RE PM News, a 5-6 block still would work, moving Ron and Don to 6-9p (much better time slot) after adding a hour for Reagan (Noon-2) and Dori 2-5. Waste of Tony Miner's talent to do only half hour updates. I've heard outdated promos,ie., Dori's recorded promo during Ross' show ending with "see ya at one." Then recorded liner guy says: "...Dori Monson...NOON to 3 on....." Those things shouldn't happen on a 50KW powerhouse in a major market. Don't act, then react. Think first, test things and ideas, then put 'em on the air. I could write a book..but I'm off to a real job.70Radio

Re: "There You Go Again," KIRO!/Further More

Good moves by KIRO on May 1; however they're not done. Ideal and number grabbing line up (Monday-Friday):6a-9a--Morning News w/Gregg and Jane (If it ain't broke....)9a-Noon--Dave Ross (BACK where he belongs and more acerbic than ever!)Noon-2p--Ron Reagan (An hour is just not enough {unless he has commitments to TV}...he's just getting going in the 1st hour)2p-5p---Dori Monson (if KIRO MUST keep him on the air)5p-6p---Afternoon News w/Tony and Val({Ooops, sorry, they let a gem go!} Waste of Tony's talents only doing half hour updates)6p-9p---Ron and Don (much better time slot for them)9p-11p--NY Vinnie (If he wants to talk M's...don't do it while they're still on KOMO; wait until AFTER they lose sometime between 9:30 and 10p)11p----????? NO IDEA!Thoughts?70Radio

Ooops...not that it's that big a deal, but in my post re KOMO/KIRO traffic reports, it should read "traffic reports," not 'wx!'70Radio

Interesting lineup:I do think Dori's days are numbered...Ron Reagan will probably do 12-3 and the two goons will be on (or off?) 3-6... ..then NY Vinnie from 6-9pm, then from 9-12 Midnight they'll find a spot for Tony Miner...(his days are numbered in daytime news..too expensive to keep around just for 2 minute newsbreaks). Then from 12-3am a replay of Dave Ross (edited)... ...from 3a to 5a a replay of the last 2 hours of Ron (edited). That's my guess... albeit wild...

For someone who cites KIRO as being a really bad radio station, you listen an awful lot.Perhaps you're a recently-dismissed former employee?

AQH, if you read one of my earlier posts above you'll find my feelings about KIRO are quite the contrary: "KIRO surely has lots of talented on air folks"---it's just the people telling 'em what to do!" I listen becaue KIRO is once again becoming a great radio station. Just looking for consistency in formatics. Simple as that.

Got it, thanks. Just as long as you embed a positive comment in there, then it's okay to listen to, as you claim, such a bad-sounding radio station for hours and hours and complain about it here. Thanks for the clairty. ::)
