There's country music on the cape

is this the first country station down the cape? if so, i bet it will pull in some good ratings, especially in the summer months

I believe the last station to try country on the cape was WCIB, calling themselves something like "Thunder Country 101.9," but that only lasted a few months back in the mid 90s. 93.5 and/or 101.1 were country at some point also, before that.

country really has blossomed as a format here in new england, from the mid 90's to now, there is a world of difference.....it almost sounds like a branch of pop now....i dig it
 
Yes some country is pretty close to pop and there are crossover songs and artists. I heard
a bit of the new WKPE including a perky DJ in the afternoon, Shea. She said there would soon
be a Cape Country jeep out on the road giving out bumper stickers, etc. Liners for the station
asked, "Tired of trying to pickup faraway country stations?" (WCTK, WKLB) The idea was that now
there was a nice clear country signal on the Cape.

Among the songs I heard was the nice long version of the Alabama classic "My Home's In Alabama",
always a fave of mine for its changes in tempo and volume and the melody.

LOL. I'm in a public place, and I'm still laughing. ;D

Seriously - I notice their slogan is "Today's Best Country and the Legends". I heard a 1974 Mac Davis top 40 song in the mix. Sounds like a cross between Hartford's Country 92.5 (today's country) and it's HD2 station (classic country).
 
Yes--and the "legends" do only go back to the 70s and possibly a few 60s (Patsy, Waylon,
Dolly, Johnny Cash) but it's mostly new and the past coupled decades. Glad you liked my joke!
I was down to the Cape for about 6 hours today (family get-together at my Dad's); 103.9 came
in well including the southern stretch of Rt 3 just off-Cape. And yes 98.1 comes in well just
about everywhere, so, so much for "tired of trying to pick up a faraway station?" Well
maybe people might prefer Cape Country 104's mix, and the local advertisers can place spots there.

In addition to 2 local DJs and the ol' computer, they're running the syndicated American Country
Countdown with Kix Brooks (of Brooks & Dunn) Sunday mornings.
 
WCTK has two rivals now.What is important to me is--------if CAPE COD can get its own country station,perhaps the NY market is not just a distant dream for guys like me from MIDWOOD BROOKLYN,NY11230!!!!!! My 15 yr old daughter is still waiting for a country station!!!!!!

"Hot Country Thunder 101.9" and "Cape Country 93-5 and 101 FM", both in the '90s.
 
98.1 WCTK is the 92 PRO FM of country music. I am not even a big listener of country music but in the few times I did hear 98.1 I quickly became sick of hearing them say "Today's Country Hits" and their stubbornness to not play mainly songs from the 90's to now. I was happy when they finally got competition from 102.5 WKLB and now they will have competition on the Cape, and also nearby southeastern Massachusetts. Good. In my opinion, much of country music today is not even real country music. It's nice when stations mix in the legends, because I know there are people here in New England that like real country music. How else would WHIM have lasted from 1966 to the mid 90's?
