"Scott Mahalick, The Wolf's program director, said he thinks Seattle is big enough to support two country stations. KKWF will try to set itself apart from KMPS, and the others that have challenged it, with a style of presentation he described as "very contemporary, Top 40, upbeat." He said the name The Wolf means "the station itself is a personality. ... There's incredible brand image associated with animals."

Now THAT is some consultant-speak! I can't wait to see his reign!

So we know...
- He is NOT a slave to genres and willing to create as he goes...
- He shows a Concern for Strategic Image Construction.
So far..he sounds promising. Maybe I'll send him a demo tape...he might be worth working for.

But WHY the SAME animals radio stations are usually named after (Hawk/Eagle/Bear/Wolf/Fox/Cat, etc) When is The Palatypus finally going to get it's own station?

I want the Raccoon!

(and as a "furry"--fan of anthropomorphic animals--I get a kick out of
stations with animal nicknames...remember WOLF country in Syracuse?
Or stations like the Fox in Vermont...

Dear Scott,

Young Country tried the un-KMPS, uptempo presentation 10 years ago.

It didn't work, and KMPS only got stronger.

Welcome to Seattle. Try a Dick's Deluxe.

Re: "There's incredible brand image associated with animals"..with video to prove it too.....

...and don't forget that all-time classic:

KPIG 107-Oink-5.

Now there's a station that developed its brand nicely, and they're out in the sticks.

Now THERE'S an animal station PERFECT for a Northwest station (Lite AC, B/EZ, conservative talk....)<P ID="signature">______________

As as avid radio fan, I must admit I am much more likely to listen to a station that is named after an animal, regardless of the music they play.

Radio is the only entertainment medium that tries to act like it's a serious business while pretending it's a zoo.
