There's something wrong with my radio…

…or at least I thought there was. Okay, I was listening to Magic 106.7, and I heard Dan Justin say, "Here's Rihanna with 'Umbrella.'" After he announced it, I was like "Wait, I thought I was listening to Magic. Hold on, maybe I'm listening to Kiss 108…" So, I then checked the radio dial to make sure it was tuned properly, and…yes, it was indeed "Umbrella" being played on Magic. Why would Magic play a song like that? I wouldn't exactly consider it Soft Rock…

Actually, it did not. Unless you count the fact that they completely cut the intro and went right to the first verse. They do that a lot.

I love when they announce songs like that with, "Here's some new soft rock from Rihanna..."

When I've listened in the past six months or so it seems like they're trying to tone down the use of the word "Magic". Obviously its still the station's brand, but the personalities seem to refer quite often to a nameless 106.7 (i.e. "Here's soft rock from Kanye West, "Stronger," on 106.7." Have they concluded that Magic isn't a hip word when there are stations out there as radically named as "Fresh"?

Trying to lower their median age demographic, maybe?

Get some of the listeners who feel that they're just now "growing out" of Kiss-108, but still may want some of those contemporary hits?

Keep them from turning to Mix?

Oh, whats his name who is the music director? I think he is doing a great job "contemporizing" the station! Keeps it fresh and interesting!

They probably saw good research on the record. It's non-offensive and the lyrics are female-friendly (speaking in terms of the AC format).

The cafeteria at work is always blaring Magic (otherwise I wouldn't be caught dead listening to this lame station...I'm more of an 'FNX,'XRV and college radio guy) and they were playing an upbeat CHR type song the other day, a surprising change from the usual John Mayer, The Fray, etc. But then I guess when ur that square I guess theres no saving you (j/k ;D)

Did it have really horrible edits???

No kidding, right? Why did they edit the second post out of "The Sweet Escape?" Radio people are just so clueless sometimes. Don't rape the music.

Also, "Umbrella" is neither "soft" nor "rock." It's not 1975. Stop it.

According to their online playlist, Magic still played "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin yesterday. That means they're still officially a "soft rock" station.
:D

I didn't find this song on YES.com for Magic 106.7 list in the song log. The closest song that I found that I wouldn't think would be on a AC would be "OneRepublic - Apologize".

I wouldnt complain about umbrella if it was on WZLX' classic cafe. I don't care what kind of music you like, that song is catchy....eh eh, eh eh.

Mule

Don't forget Ron and Fez m-f noon to three on XM 202

OneRepublic is #8 on Mainstream AC.
