To use the words of Columbo. Can anyone from Middle Tennessee
tell me why WTVF chose to cut Talk Of The Town to 30 minutes,
given the show's popularity? I have seen on Wikipedia that the
station wanted to put it on its digital channel but too many people
protested. So now they're moving the show to 11 AM, staying in
pattern with the CBS soaps (one good thing, since TOTT messed
up the flow), and putting Rachael Ray at 3 (don't worry, this is
Central Time; Price Is Right is on at 10 and Guiding Light at 2).
Why couldn't TOTT have been moved to 9 AM and the midday
news stay at 11?

on WTVF/5, the CBS affiliate in Nashville, from 12:30-1:30
(Central). The show was born in 1984 when WSMV/4 (NBC)
abandoned its longrunning Noon Show in favor of a straight
hour of news from 12-1. It is one of the highest-rated
programs, day or night, in the Nashville market.

The scheduling of the show results in two CBS soaps
being aired on delay. The Bold And The Beautiful airs on
a one-hour delay at 1:30 (Central); As The World Turns
airs on a two-hour delay at 3 (Central). From what I
understand, these two soaps will now be in pattern at
12:30 and 1, respectively, as Rachael Ray gets the 3 PM
slot on WTVF.

I do know that one of the show's hosts, Harry Chapman,
is about to retire, so apparently the other host, Meryll
Rose, is going to do the show solo.

Still, I don't understand why WTVF seems to be phasing
out Talk Of The Town; that would be like my local CBS
affiliate, WFMY/2 Greensboro, NC, phasing out its Good
Morning Show, an institution for almost 50 years.

Likely they figure they will get more ad revenue from a hot property like Rachel Ray's talk show than from the combined midday news and Talk Of The Town combination.

If it fails in the 11am slot and one or more of the new syndicated shows fail a well, I wouldn't be terribly suprised to see it moved to a morning slot and re-tooled as a paid-for talk show (ala WFLA's Daytime, WFAA's recently re-tooled Good Morning Texas and others).

Actually, Young and The Restless would not be running out of place on WTVF as they are simply using the Eastern Time Zone feed of YandR instead of the Central Time feed. In eastern time, the news comes on after Price Is Right and then Young and The Restless theme airs at 12:30 eastern.

True. WBBM Chicago and KTVT Dallas also run Y&R at
11:30 (so does KCBS in the Pacific time zone); although
most CBS affiliates in the earlier time zones run Y&R
before the noon news, they have a choice of running
it at 11 or 11:30, so it's not really running out of pattern
in Nashville.

So I'm taking it that Bold And The Beautiful and As
The World Turns will now be in pattern in Nashville.
