They Killed Starbuck!

It should also be pointed out to those who were not around for the original series that Starbuck was lost in the final episode. I believe it was the episode where he and the Cylon were stranded together on the planet where there were people who had been lost from the original colonies. But I do remember that there was a story about the "legend" of Starbuck.

The story of Starbuck being stranded on that planet ran during the "Galactica 1980" follow-on series, and was definitely one of the better episodes from that series. I think that it may have been the final episode of "Galactica 1980", but am not certain because it has been such a long time.

I believe you are correct that the show was cancelled shortly after that episode aired. Galactica 1980 was horrible, plain and simply horrible. When ABC cancelled the original series there was such an outcry from viewers that the decision was made to put on this half-a## replacement knowing quite well that fans of the original series would be so disgusted with the cast and scripts they would just go away; and they did. From 1980 until three years ago Richard Hatch, the original Apollo, tried unsuccessfully to resurrect the show. Even though the new Battlestar is doing quite well, it's not what Hatch envisioned. Personally I think this series is far superior to the original, however lately I've been disappointed with a number of things. First the killing off of a number of strong female cast members. (Starbuck and Cat) Second I wish the actor who portrays Baltar, James Callis, would either talk louder and stop mumbling, or that the background music be turned down to a level so that we can actually hear what Callis is saying. Finally the writers need to bring back the Cylons, or other possible adversaries. The show is getting stale, in my opinion, and even Edward James Olmos can't save it. At the rate its going, I give Galactica one or perhaps two more years before the Sci-Fi network drops it. Of course by then the show will have enough episodes for syndication.
