They preempted that for this?

WBNS CBS 10 Columbus, OH aired an hour-long special last night titled "Not All Heroes Wear Capes", acknowledging the efforts of local doctors and nurses. It aired from 7-8, bumping Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune to 2:07 and 2:37 AM, replacing an infomercial and JIP'ing CBS Overnight News.

This weekend's FOX "optional" programming

Saturday is the Cup race from Fall 1988 at 11am CDT then Game 4 of World Series (Boston/St Louis) at 2
Sunday is SB42 Pats and Giants at 2pm

no Sunday eNASCAR due to Easter

Titan shows WJKT has all 3 programs this weekend
WHBQ has other programming

Titan is not always accurate in these cases. They showed most of the FOX optional sports on WNYW even though most of them were not aired. Zap2It/Gracenote is more accurate.

For this weekend, WNYW is not airing either of the two Saturday sports. Infomercials from 12-3, then Raw Travel, then "Ocean's Twelve" from 3:30-6:00, an hour of local news, then a repeat of the "Fire Fight Australia" benefit concert at 7:00.

They are airing the Super Bowl replay on Sunday for the first time. Titan erroneously lists it as 2004 WS.

Titan shows WJKT has all 3 programs this weekend
WHBQ has other programming

Spectrum's guide for WJKT has TBA or paid programming listed for Saturday and TBA for Sunday, but WHBQ has specific infomercials listed for both days. I hope Titan is right for WJKT, but I figure Spectrum's listings for WHBQ is probably right.

If WJKT does carry Fox's programming then WHBQ will probably be blacked out even if they're carrying infomercials, so I'll be getting my wish that I've said before that I'd rather see dead air than infomercials.

so is WHBQ blacked out for any time that FOX is duplicated (even when they dont carry the programming)? Thought it was only for identical programming?

I ask because while I have 2 CBS & 2 FOX stations on my cable system (Consolidated in Mankato, MN) neither out of market affiliate (WCCO & KMSP Minneapolis) are blacked out/simsubbed/overlayed with local affiliate.

Spectrum in Jackson blacks out WHBQ any time WJKT carries Fox programming, even if WHBQ isn't carrying it, which is what is happening today. WJKT is actually carrying the Fox sports programming for today and WHBQ is blacked out, even if they're showing infomercials. To me overlaying WJKT over WHBQ during Fox programming would make more sense but they don't.

Spectrum apparently has different agreements with the different stations in Jackson. They carry CBS from both WBBJ 7.3 and WREG 3 in Memphis, NBC from both WNBJ 39.1 in Jackson and WMC 5 in Memphis, and PBS from WLJT 11 in Lexington/Jackson and WKNO 10 in Memphis. But they have an agreement with WBBJ 7 to only carry ABC from them and no other ABC station, so WATN 24 is out. I like the arrangements for CBS and NBC and I can tolerate the arrangement for Fox to have two options for each network, but I don't like the agreement that WBBJ has to keep WATN out. But it's been like that for years and it doesn't look like it will change, and I wouldn't put it past them to eventually try to get an agreement like that with CBS on 7.3.

thanks for the explanation. Thats what Spectrum does here in Mankato with WCCO. They overlay KEYC Mankato when national programming is on. Consolidated (the incumbent Telco) does not.
Interesting that Jackson Energy carried Nashville's CBS instead of Memphis and doesnt carry the FOX affiliate (FOX13) either.

interesting as the Big 4 from Memphis are considered significantly viewed in Madison County, TN so in theory cable companies CAN carry them. They dont have to but can. This is the list as of April 2016
WBBJ-TV, 7, Jackson, TN
+WJKT, 16, Jackson, TN (formerly WMTU)
WREG-TV, 3, Memphis, TN (formerly WREC)
WMC-TV, 5, Memphis, TN
WHBQ-TV, 13, Memphis, TN
+WPTY-TV, 24, Memphis, TN

JEA cable is unavailable where I live in Alamo, but from what I could find out WMC NBC 5 is the only Memphis station listed and WTVF CBS 5 is the only Nashville station listed. ABC and Fox are only available from Jackson. To me that's even worse then Spectrum. Charter (Spectrum) used to carry WTVF and WSMV NBC 4 from Nashville until 2009 and used the digital conversion as an excuse for dropping them.

JEA also carries the PBS from Memphis. Yeah it seems like when there are two options in a town the Telco doesnt carry as much as the cable company. Where I live (Mankato, MN) its Charter/Spectrum or Consolidated (telco).
Both carry the Big 4 + PBS + My Network from Minneapolis along with the CBS & FOX from Mankato. (neither carries the new NBC or CW low powered station that Gray launched in December). But Charter carries ABC & PBS from the Austin/Rochester, MN market (SD only). Consolidated doesnt.

I thought you were in Jackson. Looking at the Significant viewed list for Crockett County yeah its just CBS, NBC and FOX from Memphis
WREG-TV, 3, Memphis, TN (formerly WREC)
WMC-TV, 5, Memphis, TN
WHBQ-TV, 13, Memphis, TN
WBBJ-TV, 7, Jackson, TN

Crockett County is considered a part of the Memphis market. The satellite systems and streaming services only carry Memphis stations. If I go to any of them (I'm seriously considering going to a streaming service) I won't be able to get any Jackson stations But I live close enough to Jackson to get WBBJ and WJKT (Only 2 miles away from their tower) OTA without any problem. But I can't get WNBJ because they're low power and too far away.

WJKT is carrying Fox's Super Bowl replay today and WHBQ is blacked out again. For some weird reason Spectrum is showing a slide for public access programming instead of the usual slide for WHBQ being blacked out during Fox programming.

Would anyone close enough to pick up WHBQ know what they're actually doing on these "optional" weekends? I'm unable to get them OTA. Thanks!

Interesting that you don't get all the Memphis stations since you are in the Memphis DMA. I assume your town must be part of the Jackson headend because that's the only reason I can see them blacking out FOX Memphis and not giving you ABC Memphis.

I know I dont get all the Mankato stations but its due to the NBC & CW signing on 4 months ago (and being a low powered station...also KARE NBC is considered Significantly Viewed in Blue Earth County so cable cant pull the Mpls NBC.)

In checking on streaming services I've found out I could get all the Big 4 plus CW and PBS from Memphis on most of them. I'm hoping that Memphis will eventually get Locast, which will also carry most of the major stations' subchannels as well. That's assuming they don't get forced off by court rulings.

One other note I forgot is I looked through old DMA maps to see if Crockett county was in the Jackson market (went back 12 years and its been in Memphis) because it seems weird that WJKT has their tower in a different market. I know our lake house in Northern Minnesota use to have analog translator of the Duluth, MN FOX even though we were the Minneapolis market (the county was in the Duluth market until the early 2000s)

On a side note....while searching through the forum on something I noticed (I know...touchy topic) that WBBJ-DT3 has had a neutered version of MeTv for over EIGHT years now...wow!

WJKT's tower is about 2 miles from my house just outside Alamo.

Yes, and WBBJ has still done nothing to fix the problem. They only carry me TV for filler during non-network time and they claim that they can't adjust the bandwidth to add Me TV full time. I've had hopes that WJKT could eventually get Me TV away from WBBJ but they have other subchannels now and haven't done anything. I'ev finally been able to get an outdoor antenna that I can use to get Me TV from WLMT 30.2 in Memphis. It does good for getting the main stations in Memphis who have an RF channel on UHF, but WHBQ isn't one of them since they're on RF 13. So I really can't tell what they're doing on days like today when they're blacked out on Spectrum.

I'm sure they could. I know when they added CBS they have to give X amount of bandwidth (I forget what it is...have the document somewhere saved...edit: found it. They have to give CBS at least 5Mbps) but its interesting at the other Bahakel stations
WCCB in Charlotte
CW in HD and SEVEN SD stations
https://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=station_search&callsign=49157#station

ABC in Columbia, SC with ABC & five SD
https://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=station_search&callsign=60963#station

FOX in Myrtle Beach, SC with FOX and six SD
https://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=station_search&callsign=9054#station

They also own 3 stations in the Montgomery, AL market

Funny how companies like Gray can do 3 HD stations no issues. I know here in Minneapolis PBS does 3 HD stations no issues.
Heck WTVQ in Lexington can do 2 HD and five SD

It all depends on the encoder. But I know how you feel. When Gray lit up KMNF-LD NBC/CW here in Mankato the engineer at the time mentioned a SD station on 7-3 and thought it would be Circle (since Gray owns it). Yet still havent see it yet and when I asked recently KEYC/KMNF mentioned they "didnt know or if" it would be added. They have tested a 7-3 a few times with weather radar.

WROC CBS 8 in Rochester, NY aired another coronavirus town hall special tonight from 7-8 PM. Wheel of Fortune was bumped to 1:37 AM, replacing Comics Unleashed, and Jeopardy! was bumped to 2:37, in place of Paid Programming. A repeat of the 11:00 newscast airs in between at 2:07.
