They preempted that for this?

KGAN CBS 2 in Cedar Rapids Waterloo Iowa is airing Colts at Packers at 7pm with Stand Up to Cancer at 10:30pm with the other two CBS shows 48 Hours at 11:30 and NCIS New Orleans at 12:30

There was a second thread started at one time but it was eventually merged back into this one.

This thread has actually been going on in one form or another since 2006. Would this be one of the longest running?

This thread reminded me of, not that I really cared for this movie, when KSHB-TV in Kansas City, MO preempted the NBC network premiere of the movie "The 40 Year Old Virgin" back in 2008. I remember that NBC was going to show that movie one evening & I also remember turning on the TV & flipping through the channels early the next morning, somewhere between 2AM-3AM, & seeing KSHB-TV airing the movie at that time. At the time I thought that there was some local breaking news event that preempted it. However I recently was able to find out the date in 2008 that NBC aired the movie & was able to find a couple of TV listings that showed what KSHB-TV & NBC affiliate in Topeka, KS (KSNT-TV, Ch. 27.) were airing on that evening & while KSNT-TV aired the movie & a rerun of "The Office" afterwards, KSHB-TV preempted both & aired the 2005 movie "Cinderella Man" instead. I am pretty sure now that the preemption & tape delaying was done due to content.

I can't remember what year it was but I remember WOI 5 (Des Moines Iowa ABC affiliate) Pre-empted ABCs Primetime schedule from 7-9pm on a Thursday to air the movie Peggy Sue Got Married.

I don't know if they still go on, but there used to be times that stations would pre-empt prime time programming to run some older movie loaded with what amounted to infomercials for some home improvement service or something similar. The Memphis and Jackson, TN stations used to be bad about running them but I haven't seen anything like that in recent years.

The original thread was supposed to contain only surprising, illogical pre-emptions, primarily those involving stations that would sell the time slot and show infomercials or paid religion instead of a series, special or sporting event being seen in every other market. It eventually became cluttered with posts about pre-emptions due to storm coverage, shooting incidents, local sports, national telethons, and other completely understandable causes, along with obsessive reporting of a "conspiracy" against Wheel of Fortune. A "routine pre-emptions" thread was started, but, for reasons unknown, was folded back into the thread you're reading now.

The bottom line is that there are very, very few truly illogical pre-emptions. Even the most surprising can be explained with a simple "Money talks."

I have. WSOC-TV in Charlotte was doing it as recently as a year or so ago. Of course, if I like the movie, that makes a difference. WXLV never pre-empts anything and it's one of the few stations I can pick up with an antenna and the only one that doesn't have problems.

Here’s another from where I grew up. NBC affiliate WAGT TV 26 in Augusta GA. In the late 80s and early 90s they used to preempt TNBC’s Saturday morning shows like “Saved By The Bell” and “City Guys” for old episodes of “The Rockford Files”! This was infuriating to me as a then, 15 year old kid. Most of the eastern side of the Augusta market was able to watch the full TNBC line up on WIS TV 10 in Columbia SC… even on cable in some areas of Augusta proper. But I was in the the western suburbs of Augusta, too far away to pick up WIS TV and certainly wasn’t it wasn’t available on my cable system. Fortunately, syndicated— reruns of “Saved By The Bell“ ran on Superstation WTBS in Atlanta weekday mornings. But still, how dumb was that? I was pretty pissed! Lol

In the 90's Des Moines Iowa NBC affiliate Pre-empted Saturday Mornings with News only airing 1 hour of TNBC shows from 11am-Noon and later 10am to Noon when they moved the start time of Today to 6am. Other affiliates like ABC and CBS also Pre-empted some of their shows for local kids programing or syndicated programming like Not Just News instead of the Broadcast Saturday Morning Cartoons. One Affiliate In Northern Iowa what I don't get is they Pre-empted regular Saturday Morning Cartoons on CBS for Paid Programs.

Starting a new thread for what is taking place within the TV Season -

Today's (9/2) wall-to-wall storm coverage on CBS 3 in Philadelphia has moved CBS Programs to the CW 57.

So with college football really getting into gear this weekend there will be times where the national game gets nuked for a local contest

North Dakota State Bison moved to ABC ND this year (they had been on NBC ND since 2007). This includes WDAY Fargo, WDAZ Grand Forks, KBMY Bismarck and KMCY Minot. So this weeks 2:30 game on ABC (Alabama & Miami, FL) gets moved to the WDAY/Z 'Xtra 6.3, 8.3, 14.3 and 17.3

Luckily that station is in HD ;)

It looks like ABC and Fox are gearing up to run college football games and postgame shows through the 7-8 PM ET hour on Saturday that would normally be for news or local programming again. As usual CBS doesn't have any games until next week, but it would make sense for them to do the same thing considering how most late afternoon games run over.

All major New York City TV Stations are set to be carrying the 9/11 20th Anniversary all morning Saturday, with the exception on WWOR. They will have the Fox College Football Pre-Game Show and a Simulcast of the Oregon-Ohio State Game in case the ceremony runs past 12 Noon (which is most likely)
