They preempted that for this?

Even subchannels have their share of preemptions. From rdvegas on the AVS Forum:

Thursday Court sessions are in recess on KVCW 33.2. The usual syndicated Court programs have been sidetracked by the geniuses at Sinclair who force feed West Coasters with East Coast basketball on their American Sports Network. The majority of the teams are such lame minor teams, they are hardly known outside their own territory. Until ASN steps up their game and carries teams from the Pacific Coast, viewers here in Las Vegas will yawn and turn the dial, yearning for Judge Judy, Judge Mathis, Hot Bench, Divorce Court and the other dis-placed syndicated programming.

To further make matters worse for Vegas viewers, Sinclair also force feeds us ASN games on the GET sub-channel of KSNV 3.3 while a ASN game also airs on KVCW 33.2.

I know that local stations are allowed, and protected by the FCC, to pre-empt network programming. But Sinclair has become pre-emption happy of late. Since their forced buy-out of KSNV and the launch of the American Sports Network last Fall, Sinclair doesn't give a damn about the interests of local viewers. Those local viewers want the programming of their sub-channels to be a 24/7 affair. Sinclair needs to ramp up a sub-channel to carry only ASN crap, leabing GET and Antenna TV free from sports pre-emptions. They could rededicate a sub-channel to Zuus Country and air ASN games on it, at least airiung Zuus Country part time.

On a side note, I noticed this past weekend that KVCW 33.1 and 33.2 were simulcating each other, lacking sufficient programming to fill both channels independently of each other. That's not in the public interest.

Also this past weekend, Sinclair minds thought to pre-empt Antenna TV's Too Close For Comfort for an episode of Nevada Newsmakers. It was so poorly handled that Newsmakers started after their normal first commercial break and using the opening of Too Close For Comfort. This all bit their asses when the program then concluded late and KVMY 21.2 joined Antenna TV's airing of Ecening Shade a fuill 2 or 3 minutes late. Extremely unprofessional, even for a small market station, which Vegas is not.

At 6:15 pm Thursday, Sinclair was airing the same ASN game on both KSNV 3.3 (GET) and KVCW 33.2 (MNT).

WKOW (ABC) Madison has the Wisconsin HS Basketball Tournaments that preempt ABC programming for two weekends in March (girls one week, boys the next). They also air on ABC in La Crosse-Eau Claire and Wausau-Rhinelander, MNT Green Bay and WMLW Milwaukee.

I can't vouch for Nashville, but it's true that WTMJ pre-empted Johnny Carson during much of the 1980s. This was at a time, IIRC, when Johnny was regarded as starting to skew old and some NBC stations thought they'd do better running something else to attract a younger audience. In WTMJ's case, it was off-network reruns ranging from Soap to Trapper John MD to Magnum PI. This started around 1982 or 1983 and lasted until WTMJ decided to bring back Johnny in September 1989. Milwaukee wasn't without Johnny, though: then-independent WVTV picked up The Tonight Show during the time WTMJ didn't have it.

WSMV in Nashville did not carry The Tonight Show for a few years in the 1980;s so it when to WZTV.

For a long time WKRN the ABC Affiliate would pre-empt allot of ABC's network programming. Nashville did not get the full 2 hours of Good Morning America until January 1979.

...the ABCs in La Crosse (WXOW), Eau Claire (WQOW) and Wausau-Rhinelander (WAOW, WYOW and WMOW) are co-owned with WKOW...

WSYR-TV in Syracuse refused to air "Saturday Night Live" for its first one or two seasons. I was in college up there at the time and the decision was not a popular one among students. If I'm not mistaken, there were other affiliates in similarly conservative areas (Despite the university, Syracuse was and still is a very conservative place.) that had problems with the show's content and wouldn't air it.

A couple of years later, but in the daytime, NBC had similar clearance problems with "The Gong Show" -- again, the show could be somewhat risque.

KSL Still Won’t Air Hannibal

The NBC show Hannibal is still not airing on Salt Lake City NBC affiliate KSL.

The station announced the show’s third season will appear on Nexstar’s CW affiliate KUCW on Saturdays over the summer between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m.

The show was pulled from KSL in 2013 after the Mormon-owned station said the show was “too graphic” after viewers complained.

Say what you will about the NHL's TV ratings, but this is still inexplicable.KING in Seattle is not airing [the 2006] Stanley Cup Finals. It will be shown instead on independent KONG.

The Stanley Cup Final is airing on KING this year, while KONG is sticking with "regular" programming.

Also, are there any FOX stations preempting Saturday's UEFA Champions League Final?

In Boston, WFXT is preempting tonight's new episode of BOOM! (the one with the Blueberry Slushie Bomb) for a debate on whether Boston should host the 2024 Olympics.

Like I said in an earlier post, maybe it's not inexplicable, but it might qualify as inexcusable. That sounds like something that should be on a PBS station.

I think stations should air more local issue programming. But I would agree that there's probably a better time to air something like that rather than preempting a new episode of a prime time show. (Maybe right after their 10:00 news.)

From 506sports Forums:

Nothing like getting the finish of a major championship pre-empted for the pre-game of a PRE-SEASON GAME. They moved it to an alternate channel, but screwed everybody who was taping it.

KPIX just shifted the last hour of PGA Championship to their B station so they can get 49er pregame.
Why couldn't KPIX move the pre-game show to Channel 44?

KPIX can't win. If they keep PGA on, football fans would whine about having to change channels for their coverage (even for a pregame show). Move PGA and golf fans complain. Never mind people who will complain about a rerun of "Glee" being pre-empted for sports on that channel.

From the TV Schedules forum:

Milwaukee TV listings—December 10-11, 1994 (listings courtesy of the Milwaukee Sentinel)

WTMJ-TV Channel 4 (NBC)

Sunday
11:40 Wings (WTMJ always had a history of shifting some of its Thursday night shows to Sundays, for syndicated shows)

What aired in place of Wings that Thursday? And was the preempted episode new or a rerun?
