They preempted that for this?

If the Blue Jays-Orioles game in '89 was needed, then Al Michaels would have missed 'MNF' that week(Eagles-Bears) and Frank Gifford would have moved up to play-by-play for the Eagles-Bears game. Same thing in 87, when Tigers vs. Blue Jays might have been needed, then Gifford would have done the 49ers-Giants game. If NBC, i'd guess Costas-Kubek, since Vin and Joe would be preparing for the NLCS.

In 1999, ESPN2 carried the Reds-Brewers game, while technically not a 'day after the season finale' makeup game, per see, it was delayed for hours by rain, and the Reds needed to win to force a one game playoff against the Mets. If the Mets had lost, that would have been for the wild card spot, with no chance of a playoff.

I guess Mankato is determined to show Big Bang Theory reruns tonight. They normally are on at 6:30 & 9:30 on KEYC-DT2 (FOX). Since the All Star Game is on tonight they are going to run them at 1:07 & 1:37am on KEYC CBS.
(KEYC normally signs off at 1:07am and FOX sub at 1:30am)

Another Sunday of no CBS national programming....another Sunday of WCCO with the 6 hours of paid programs (11a-5p)

At least KEYC has 3 hours of Bandwagon (the old tyme/polka show locally produced) :)
They also have some other programming but no paid programs

I remember this because I made note of it, I was so mad.
In 2007 and 2008, WCPO/Channel 9 was still a CBS affiliate. It was always pre-empting network prime time shows to run health programs or Billy Graham. I suspect that someone at WCPO did NOT like Ugly Betty, because it was pre-empted at least six times during those two years, the victim most often of pre-emption.
When WCPO and WKRC/Channel 12/ABC switched affiliates, I remember reading that one of the reasons this was done was because CBS was annoyed with WCPO and its constant pre-empting.
WCPO also pre-empted a lot of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, on Saturday nights as well in the 1990s.
I don't know if it was my imagination or not, but it seemed like WCPO did this mainly to programs aimed at female audiences.

WFSB Channel 3 (Merideth owned CBS) in Hartford ran 6 1/2 hour so infomercials today 11:30AM-6PM. Wish they would show LAFF or Escape instead of the infomercials. Escape and LAFF air on Channels 3.2 and 3.3 respectively.

If you could pay WFSB as much to not run them as the infomercial producers pay WFSB to run them, then the station might consider that. In fact, you probably would have to pay MORE than the infomercial scammers do because WFSB doesn't want to alienate them and possibly lose their business in the future.

WREG CBS 3 in Memphis went infomercial crazy again yesterday afternoon as well. I don't know about what they did Saturday since I was away from home most of the afternoon.

I think a big factor in what happens with CBS not having any sports programming on weekends this time of year has to do with having no golf coverage on certain weekends. At least once football season starts we hopefully won't have to put up with all infomercials on weekends on the stations that are bad about being infomercial crazy for a while. We might have some time for infomercials but at least it won't be all day.

CBS had national programming for part of the afternoon. IIRC it was Tough Mudder, Fishing, some off road racing and hilites of the Calgary Stampede.

Looking at the PGA schedule CBS has golf now until the 1st weekend of College Football (Labour Day weekend) when that would take over.

It must have been very briefly because I always remember "Sale Of The Century" being on Channel 36. Here's an oddity from the days when Channel 2 was still the NBC affiliate; it didn't carry the daytime "Gong Show" (Channel 36 did) but did carry the nighttime version Fridays at 7:30. 11 Alive did, IIRC, carry the Bill Cullen "Blockbusters"; it might not have seen the light of day on Channel 2, because "Blockbusters" was on at 10:30 AM, in the middle of Mike Douglas' show on 2.

Somebody mentioned "Press Your Luck" not being carried in Memphis; WSPA/7 Greenville/Spartanburg/Asheville didn't pick it up until after Michael Larson's $110,237 win (must have been all the publicity), and at one point turned down the Bob Eubanks "Card Sharks," which replaced "PYL" at 10:30 AM, in favor of "Wipeout." Coincidentally or not, the host of both "PYL" and "Wipeout" was Peter Tomarken. WSPA was good about carrying "Tattletales" at 4; it was usually the only network show airing in that slot (WFBC/WYFF carried "Somerset" at 1 or not at all, and WLOS pre-empted "Edge Of Night"); in fact, before "Tattletales," it was one of a few CBS stations in the Carolinas to continue to carry "Secret Storm" at 4 (WFMY, WNCT, and WBTW also did), even though that soap was doomed.

One of the reason why WSPA changed course with the 10:30 timeslot- was that Nancy Welch- who had been on 7 for many years at 10:00- until "Pyramid" restarted in 82 with Dick Clark- and then switched to 10:30- was getting beat pretty badly in the ratings by "Sale of The Century" on WYFF/4 with the late Jim Perry, and WSPA likely panicked-plus i guess she was getting old enough to retire., so "PYL" took her place in the schedule.

CBS' PGA Championship coverage is going at at least a few minutes beyond 7PM EDT Sunday evening, which coincides with Brooks Kopeka winning the tourney at that time. Plus it looks like a little celebration and there will the trophy celebration.

I feel sorry for those people working the CBS or local affiliates' switchboard tonight and all the angry calls/letters they might be getting tonight because of this little preview of the NFL season: that 60 Minutes will be a little late. "No trophy presentation, I want my 60 Minutes NOW!"

Today, NBC isn't airing sports except for the 90-minute Ironman Championship at 1:30PM PT. KNDO is airing the same infomercial over and over for a real estate seminar, and putting Entertainers with Byron Allen at 11AM. In the good ole' days, KNDO would fill this time with movies...even in the mid-late '90s.

Here in Minneapolis on NBC it was from 10:30-3:30 Central time...just paid programs

Although at 11:00 (If I remember) they had a preview of the NBC shows...but the guide didn't reflect it. Just flipped by and saw it

That's what happens when those real estate seminars come to town. They buy most of the infomercial time slots on any given station. And all those guys are scam artists and should be in jail, but that's a discussion for another time and place.

In at least the Eastern and Central time zones, the Litton E/I programming on the Big 3 is preempted for John McCain's funeral coverage today.

Wonder what will air tomorrow if there's any affiliates that delayed at least some of the Saturday Litton shows to Sunday morning.

Well, my ABC had to preempt Weekend Adventure anyways due to not just McCain's funeral, but college football at 9am. That will push those E/I shows to Sunday, several times this fall.

ABC here (Minneapolis) in the Central time zone left funeral at 11am for football
FOX apparently had the option of carrying it. KMSP (FOX O&O) left at 11:04 to go to the game...whereas KEYC-DT2 (Mankato) had regular programming (E/I and pregame....their CBS -1 carried funeral)
