They preempted that for this?

I don't know what actually happened because I wasn't able to investigate while it was actually going on, but I was watching something I recorded on TiVo and my program was interrupted by a notice about a missing child. The screen was mostly blank and the notice was at the top. There was no sound. None of the buttons would work until it was over. The time of the notice, flashed on the screen, meant it was live. When the notice ended, I was "returned" to Live TV, meaning Channel 2 (on Spectrum, independent WAXN, virtual channel 64) which was showing "Elementary". Supposedly this aired on every station.

One of our local weathermen here in the Hartford market posted a video on his Facebook page from an angry anchor from Channel 12 in Jackson, Mississippi who said the station got hundreds on angry FB posts, phone calls, and emails because they interrupted the ACM Awards Sunday Night for Tornado Coverage. Coverage of a tornado that killed at least 3 people including a small child.

How long was the interruption? Did the coverage knock out most of the show or was it just 15 minutes of "Here's where the twister touched down. Take a look at the damage. Now lets hear from a couple of survivors. Here's a reminder of what you should do in the event of a tornado. That's all for now. Check back after the ACM Awards for details on Action News!"?

Probably from your cable provider. I've had both COX and Comcast and when the EAS gets activated it overrides everything and you can't change the channel or raise or lower the volume. Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, Flood Warnings, Tornado Warnings, etc.

It's supposed to be the same with Charter in Jackson, TN, but during the last tornado warning all it had was a trailer saying "Tornado warning for" and it would start over. The area for the warning never showed on the screen. I was able to switch to WBBJ 7 and found out it was for another county.

I agree that interrupting for an actual tornado warning is justified. But if they continue to rattle on like some stations do once the warning has passed that is uncalled for.

It appeared they didn't interrupt "Scandal" last night for the news about Syria, but rather, they put the news in the commercial break and, because they appeared to air all the commercials, it was just a very long break. I thought I would be all right at the end when it appeared the show was nowhere near over. It was fortunate I decided to watch "live", meaning I started late enough I could zap the commercials or check to see what I needed to record or go to the kitchen. But when I switched to live TV at the end, they broke into programming again, and I didn't try to see if the rest would air at all. The real president kept us from seeing the fictional president!

I also tried seeing if the same thing had happened to "Life in Pieces", if maybe the ending of "Mom" was delayed, but of course CBS also went live. I guess if the president is speaking live, you air it if it's important enough.

Well we have another San Bernardino shooting that's getting national attention this time at an elementary school. You have NPR News/Talk affiliate KPCC doing coverage of this shooting and soon to be Entercom station KNX Radio going wall to wall with this shooting due to the fact that its in an elementary school and near the site of the 2015 San Bernardino incident.

Monday: WBAY pre-empting MacGyver for a Green Bay Packers show (even though the Pack weren't on MNF that week)
Monday: WLUK and WTMJ pre-empting Ferris Bueller for the Lindy Infante Show (bonus: WTMJ also aired a Perry Mason movie instead of "When Will I Be Loved")
Wednesday: WFRV and WZZM pre-empting part of prime time for a Billy Graham crusade (at least WPBN elected to run the crusade at 7pm)
Saturday: WPBN pre-empting NBC SportsWorld for National Geographic and USWA wrestling (USWA was the former World Class Championship Wrestling)

Just watched ESPN's 30 for 30 on the XFL (WWE's failed football league), the second game televised on NBC between Los Angeles and Chicago interupted SNL when then they lost power. They switched to a game in Orlando, after fixing everything they switched back to Los Angeles, meanwhile NBC executives and Dick Ebersol were waiting for the game to end, so they could broadcast Saturday Night Live. The game did not end until 12:45 EST, due to an injury on the field and the game going into double OT.

Sunday: WBAY dumps CBS Sports for Easter Seals Telethon
Monday: Billy Graham Crusade preempts Fresh Prince and Blossom on WLUK and MacGyver on WZZM
Tuesday: WITI preempts Rescue 911 for a Billy Graham Crusade
Friday: WTMJ preempts Hunter and Dark Shadows for a Perry Mason movie; WWTV had Billy Graham at 9pm, but there are conflicting schedules on the other CBS stations
Saturday: WWTV preempts CBS college basketball for local hoops (Big Ten?)

Today in Connecticut WTNH pre-empted General Hospital and WVIT pre-empted Steve Harvey for "Breaking News. Governor Malloy not seeking 3rd Term".

Not to be picky - but a "preemption" usually means the entire program is cancelled for that day and replaced by something else. It sounds like the Malloy story was just an interruption.

I know it was on until at least 2:20 at which time I went out to run some errands. If it ran til 2:30 (or later) it may as well have been pre-empted. I know the other 2 stations at least the 3 times I checked did not break-in but ran the news conference on their webstream and/or Facebook Live. It's also ridiculous to give it so much attention because the election isn't even until November 2018.

https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/4/15/fresno-stations-knocked-off-the-air

Fresno stations KGPE and KSEE knocked off air due to storm and newscast had to move to facebook live for the time being.

A storm passed through Fresno last night, dumping 2 inches of rain in just an hour and knocked both KSEE and KGPE off the air.

The storm hit as the newsroom was working on the 11PM newscast. It soon became apparent that there would be no newscasts going out over the air.

With no power, station technicians and other staff had to figure out how to do a broadcast. It was eventually decided that news vans could be used as generators to power enough cameras and lights to put up two broadcasts online via Facebook Live – one for KSEE24 and one for KGPE.

From mtburb on the Michigan Buzzboard:

Programming alert: WDIV is preempting a new Superstore for another special this Thursday. This new Superstore will go unaired in the Detroit DMA, which will have us scrambling to pull in either WEYI, WILX or WNWO, all of whom will air it.

The local special is Minds of Medicine, sponsored by Henry Ford Health System.

I know it's not the entire program, but WSOC-TV interrupted when there were only flash flood WATCHES, which we already knew. And what is an "areal" flood warning? I've never heard that before.

No warnings. It would have been halfway justified if there had been warnings, but there weren't. I had to use the antenna to find out who the nominees were on AFV. WSOC-TV viewers only got to see the winner and get a last look at the families who got the first-place and third-place prize. I don't remember if they got to see who got second place, and they certainly didn't get to see the videos again. WXLV, with no news department, can't possibly interrupt programming because there's no one there to do it.

I missed two of Alec Baldwin's jokes because the WXLV signal picked those two times to go bad.
