"KTVU Plus" is not a "service" - it's the new branding for KICU TV 36 in San Jose. It's been a duopoly with KTVU for a few years now - started when Cox still owned the station. Both were sold to Fox, which rebranded KICU. KTVU frequently flips programming over to KICU. I'd speculate that they figured it was easier to give the regular Wendy Williams viewers a break, and switch the special Nascar programming over to the lesser station. I'd also guess that Nascar is not as big a draw in the Bay Area as it is in many other parts of the country.

No warnings. It would have been halfway justified if there had been warnings, but there weren't. I had to use the antenna to find out who the nominees were on AFV. WSOC-TV viewers only got to see the winner and get a last look at the families who got the first-place and third-place prize. I don't remember if they got to see who got second place, and they certainly didn't get to see the videos again. WXLV, with no news department, can't possibly interrupt programming because there's no one there to do it.

I missed two of Alec Baldwin's jokes because the WXLV signal picked those two times to go bad.

Areal flood warnings are flood warnings that occur when creeks and rivers are rising and expected to go over there banks and expected to remain there for a period of time. Flash Floods are that. They happen quickly and then the water goes back into the banks quickly. A classic areal flood of long duartion was 20 years ago this month. That was the Red River of the North flood of 1997.

Well we have another San Bernardino shooting that's getting national attention this time at an elementary school. You have NPR News/Talk affiliate KPCC doing coverage of this shooting and soon to be Entercom station KNX Radio going wall to wall with this shooting due to the fact that its in an elementary school and near the site of the 2015 San Bernardino incident.

WVIT the NBC O&O in Hartford pre-empted Days of Our Lives at Noon today to cover breaking news which they didn't have much information on. Something they covered during most of their 11AM newscast. I don't know if "Days" came on in progress later on or not. I turned off coverage at 12:10PM.


Also was it really necessary to break into programming this afternoon to discuss what happened with the political vote that was happening today? (I won't bring that up because I don't discuss politics and politics are not allowed on these forums). Like they couldn't wait til Local News at 4PM or Network News at 6:30PM.

So when the EAS gets activated, does the sound come from the box if the TV is off (if the box can't override the TV's ability to turn off and on when the EAS is activated)?

Also, does the cable box, when the EAS is activated override any commands that the individual TV can do alone, without cable, such as switching to HDMI/AUX (such as an Xbox One or the Nintendo Switch) or turning the volume down from the TV remote or manually from the TV itself (not the cable box remote)?
 
"Training Day" on CBS was moved to Saturdays. I'm pretty sure these were new episodes. The Charlotte Observer doesn't bother to check Brooke Cain's picks, which are sometimes wrong because the network affiliate where she lives (NBC in the case I am thinking of) pre-empted certain shows for basketball, so naturally the Observer said basketball would delay the NBC show in question, when that wasn't happening in Charlotte. Last week, "Training Day" on CBS was one of her picks, but just below, the local TV listings for Charlotte did not show it in the time slot.

Yes, it was perfectly valid to break into programming for something of that significance, opinions on the merits of the topic either way aside. It has the potential to be the first step in a hugely important area that will impact millions upon millions of people. (Again, opinions on the merits either way notwithstanding.)

They're doing it again today, only this time they're bumping a Premier League match between two lesser-known clubs (Swansea City v. Everton). WBKI (CW) is happy to pick it up, while Lexington gets screwed again.
 
WAVE has been broadcasting extended Derby coverage for years (and WHAS before it for decades)...it's not inexplicable if it's a known annual occurrence.

ACC basketball has aired on WCSC 5 for decades, except for a few years it was on WCIV. We miss top CBS network games for second-rate ACC games all the time. It used to be worse. CBS had the SEC Championship, and it didn't even air because of the ACC Championship. Even the one year South Carolina was in it, it was moved to Comcast's local channel, which half the population can't get.

WCBD used to be bad too. In '97, the entire Ryder Cup was preempted because of an Army/Duke football game (in this huge golfing market). Only cable viewers got to see it. Back when ABC had golf, it was preempted for movies. Now, about the only preemption they have each year is for a local telethon on a Sunday, and even those events go on their CW.

I remember thinking that they should start the Notre Dame games at 3:30, so that they'd wouldn't be preempted for ACC games.

WYFF-4 doesn't preempt much anymore- years ago, they'd always air the Children's Miracle Network Telethon, but it almost never was a issue with the NBA. The only time was in 1991, during the NBA Finals.

WLOS-13 does preempt form time to time for ACC games these days, and sometimes, they'll air a second game on WMYA-40 when there is a ACCN split.

WSPA-7 aired ACC games instead of the CBS Noon game, and the one time it happened the CBS game was FSU/Miami, which as shown on WASV-62. One time, South Carolina was about to play a big game, and the Clemson game was running late. So WSPA used a split screen to show both games.

As far as the Ryder Cup in 97, it aired on WYFF-4, while WSPA-7 had the Navy/Duke football game. So i was lucky that time.
 
This afternoon. Just after 2PM The Talk had just started when Channel 3 here in Hartford cut it off. "Breaking News President Trump is about to board Air Force One and leave Connecticut". - He had been in Connecticut giving a speech during the graduation ceremony at the Coast Guard Academy in New London. I turned off the TV and didn't bother checking if other station did this too.

Also when I got home after 11:30AM FOX 61 (and probably the other 3 news stations) blew out programming to cover the president's speech at the Coast Guard Academy. On FOX 61 it's People's Court that got pre-empted. On Channel 3 Price is Right. On Channel 8 The View. On Channel 30 NBC 30 News at 11AM.
 
How did you watch a show that preempted in your area and how?

I liked to watch Ryan's Hope, the soap opera, but WLOS/13 was always showing a syndicated show. So how did i watch Ryan's Hope? i had one of those big dishes to pick up the network feed. Were there ways you'd pick up a show that was preempted in your area, like for example having another network station in the area that carried the preempted show?

Never cared much for soaps as a kid, and I wasn't a big fan of movies either. "Let's Make A Deal", the original with Monty Hall originally ran on NBC. WHO-TV in Des Moines was Iowa's movie station in the 60s. WHO ran a movie weekdays from 12:30 til 2, another one 4:00 til 5:30, and they pre-empted Saturday prime time with another movie just for good measure.

Watched "Deal" maybe half a dozen times in the 60s. Those few times were courtesy of hot, humid weather it seemed. Usually it was the other station associated with Col. Palmer, WOC-TV 6 the "World Of Chiropractic" station in Davenport (nee KWQC), which wasn't as movie happy as their sister station in Des Moines.
 
I'm glad i had the option of watching the ABC network feed on satellite, because WLOS/13 was preemption happy(they don't do it as much these days) Same thing with WYFF/4- i didn't like it if they aired a ACC game over Notre Dame games.
