They preempted that for this?

WCSH-TV (NBC) channel 6 of Portland, ME would never carry NBC Sportsworld back in the 1980s. They would air a movie or some other show. On Sundays, they would air a noon newscast and join NBC's NFL pregame show in progress. I still remember coverage of The Skins Game in the fall of 1986 being aired by then-new station WPXT-TV channel 51 of Portland. They were a charter FOX affiliate, then switched to WB in 2001. Today, it's a CW affiliate. WCSH-TV is presently owned by Tegna, along with sister station WLBZ-TV (NBC) channel 2 of Bangor.

WBZ pre-empts Wheel of Fortune for Infomercial

Right now, WBZ is not airing Wheel of Fortune, but they're airing an infomercial instead! Why in the world would they do this? This absolutely makes no sense. I've seen them do this on Saturday, but during the week? Come on! I hope there's a good reason for this.

Reminds me of the time when Channel 6 in New Bedford.....during a time of greater than usual financial distress.....ran an infomercial during the 7PM hour one weeknight for some sort of women's Bra.

Bizarre. What was the infomercial for? Some political cause?

Operation Smile. Heard on the Buy-A-Vowel boards that WNEM has also preempted Wheel at least once this month for an infomercial (My Pillow, I think), and moving it to overnight. Seems like the stupidest thing anyone could do. But I bet WBZ didn't want to air it. Last night (SPOILER!!!!) .....

a woman blew a million dollars in the bonus round. And BTW she could have stood there for a month and not gotten it with the letters she picked. All she got from her three consonants and a vowel was one 'I'. It was the wrong place at the wrong time. (Also a note - for the first time in Wheel's history, the million dollars has been lost TWICE in a year. It was lost last month when they filmed at Disney World in Orlando. Also, the $100K has been lost three or four times already.)

same thing happened with KTVT CBS 11 in Dallas too, forcing Wheel of Fortune to air on CBS sister station KTXA 21. i'm guessing this was a CBS produced special infomercial that aired before CBS prime-time on all CBS O&O CBS stations.

WCCO Minneapolis did the same thing. Both are O&O stations yet KEYC Mankato (which I can get both OTA and on cable) had Wheel at 6:30 like normal

Seemed to me that WPSD was always more pre-emption-happy than the Memphis stations ever were. I remember having to watch St. Elsewhere over channel 5 when 6 pre-empted it with, of all things, a rodeo! They once pre-empted must-see Thursday with UK basketball, although they must have gotten an advance feed from NBC, since they aired Cosby a half-hour early. The rest was VCR-alert overnighted, I think. They delayed SNL by an hour for close to 20 years! And they signed off rather than carry Bob Costas' show after Letterman, which ironically had them signing off earlier on weeknights than Saturday evenings. I hope that they improved once I moved away to the Nashville area, where I have lived for the past 25 years. Pre-emptions of that nature seem rare now.

I can say the same thing about WYFF/4 in Greenville, but ACC hoops would be better than a rodeo! The ACC games were really great, if it was Duke/UNC or Clemson/UNC or one of those games. Some of those games must have delayed Carson and Letterman back in the day, too.

That's understandable, Marc. Anchors were probably glad to get the day off. Here, KIMA aired a pre-recorded 'Year in Review' special with the biggest local stories of 2017, instead of live news at 5 and 6. KAPP aired 'America This Morning' until 7am instead of Good Morning NW. KNDO aired the NBC Liturgical and Happy Holidays America (from Entertainment Studios) instead of news from 5-7am. On the other hand, up in Seattle, KIRO was airing 4:30am local news! On Xmas day! Of course those anchors are getting time and a half for it, but who's up at 4:30am on 12/25?

I'm still curious about that CBS O&O pre-emption of "Wheel of Fortune." How much would it cost to buy those 30 minutes on all those stations -- 30 minutes that contain a very popular program in local access time? And why would the cleft palate people make such a buy? How could it possibly pay for itself? What happened to the local advertising that had already been sold for that night's "Wheel," or did CBS know far enough in advance that there would be no "Wheel" in that time slot because some disease-awareness organization would be buying it?

so my semi local KEYC (Mankato, MN) tape delayed Kelly and Ryan from 9am to 1:07am this morning....due to them carrying Christmas Mass from the Diocese of Winona. They carry the Sunday mass too
They carried it at 7:30 on their FOX subchannel

With the NFL having canceled this week's Sunday Night Football game, NBC is airing Dateline at 7/6c and two episodes of The Wall at 9/8c. I wonder if affiliates will preempt one of both of these shows for a movie (so they can sell more local ads) or, those dreaded infomercials.

Canceled? I thought there was never a Sunday night game on the final weekend, or am I thinking of Monday Night Football?
