They preempted that for this?

CW Primetime Programming is pre-empted for Preseason New York Giants football on CW 20 WCCT in the Hartford Market this Thursday. The first 2 pre-season games were on sister station FOX 61, but this Thursday the FOX Network is airing their own Preseason Football game. NBC programming will also be pre=empted on NBC 4 in NYC on Thursday a well. They're air all the preseason New York Giants footnall games.

Thankfully, the national FOX game isn't preceded by a 7:30 pregame show like during the regular Thursday Night Football season, so the prime access syndies and newscasts on FOX affiliates will be fine. However, WBFF in Baltimore has been airing Redskins games every Thursday this month, pre-empting Wheel of Fortune (but not Jeopardy!) and bumping it to 3:30 AM, even though many viewers agree it would be much more logical for them to simply bump WOF to sister station WNUV (CW), which already airs the weekend editions of both Jeopardy! and WOF on Sunday evenings. Such a move would pre-empt one of two Modern Family reruns.

I kind of hope TNF drops the unnecessary pregame when the regular season starts. The games don't even start until 8:20; I think 50 minutes of pregame discussion is a bit excessive and unfair to syndies, especially WOF because of its prime access mandate (although WLUK Green Bay defies this by airing the show at 5:30 Central on game days). At least WOF is only carried on 10 FOX affiliates nationwide M-F, so it's not as bad as when CBS or NBC had TNF.

ABC O&O KGO in San Francisco (that's a lot of O's!) aired last night's 49ers/Broncos game, sliding back Jeopardy! and ABC primetime and not airing Wheel of Fortune at all (another example of the Jeopardy! bias). Ironically, during the same evening, KGO promoted an upcoming location shoot that WOF will be doing in the Bay Area all this week for a future San Francisco-themed week of episodes... on a day that they refused to air the show despite still airing its companion show.

Similarly, a Nashville-themed week is re-airing next week and one of the episodes will be getting pre-empted on Nashville's affiliate WKRN (along with dozens of other stations) due to a Titans game. WKRN partnered with WOF for the special week and promoted the show heavily when it originally aired. WKRN has the second-highest number of yearly pre-emptions for WOF, only behind WBZ Boston (which also partnered with WOF for a Boston-themed week a couple years ago).

As of the end of this month, WBZ will have pre-empted Wheel of Fortune 35 times since September 2018, and WKRN 28 times. And this only counts weekday airings, not Saturdays.

Why they airing the little league games on abc for if its not the final game. Thats is a waste of network television stick that stuff on espn classic or espn2 executives.

It's a weekend afternoon. In the dog days of summer. It's fine.

Any kind of network sports program on weekend afternoons is better than turning the time over to local stations who would likely fill it with infomercials. Granted if WBBJ wanted to pre-empt the afternoon for the telethon this was a better weekend to do it than others when more major sports events could be happening. I still don't understand running into prime time though.

East Tennessee PBS (WETP channel 2 and WKOP channel 15) pre-empting program on Create TV for pledge programming that should have been shown on the main channel (2.1/15.1) instead of Create (2.3/15.3).

The Jerry Lewis Telethon would run for 20 hours on Labor Day Weekend.

The Jerry Lewis Telethon would run for 20 hours on Labor Day Weekend.

I know that they used to be able to do that but the excessive length is very likely a factor in why fewer stations carried it over the years and it was eventually dropped completely after their dropping Jerry Lewis from it.

Last night, WPVI Philadelphia (ABC O&O) pre-empted Wheel of Fortune with "The Auto Experience", a local special on car salesmen. Wheel got bumped to 1:07 AM. The same special is pre-empting Jeopardy!'s Saturday rerun this weekend. The game shows' Saturday reruns are counted separately from the M-F shows in Nielsens, so Wheel will suffer a drop for the Tuesday pre-emption but Jeopardy! will not. WPVI has shown a bias towards Jeopardy! throughout this year, by creating and airing several promos for the show but barely promoting WOF by comparison, and bragging on their social media page how it's their most-watched syndie. That being said, Saturday Jeopardy! has been pre-empted on WPVI for the past several weeks by a local show titled "FYI Philly". My guess is J! beats Wheel in the local ratings on weekdays, but Wheel beats it in terms of their weekend runs.

WPVI pre-empted M-F Wheel a total of eight times in the 2018-19 season (including last week's shooting), while Jeopardy! was only pre-empted four times, all of which also affected Wheel (two of them were the traditional NBA Christmas game and the NFL Draft), and in one of these situations, J! got a make-good overnight while Wheel didn't air at all, because it was slotted after a College Football game but got pre-empted in full by overrun, while J! was already bumped overnight because WPVI correctly predicted the game would spill into the 7:00 hour. A bit further north, WABC did not take this caution and J! was pre-empted in full along with the first five minutes of Wheel.

Wheel was also pre-empted yesterday on KSFY Sioux Falls (ABC) by "Pigskin Preview", a local football special. The show did not get a make-good, and when I inquired about it, the station manager justified it by saying that they always wait until Wheel's rerun season (mid-June to early September) to air these specials, and they usually do not do make-goods of pre-empted programs if the affected episode is a rerun.

There is no weekend Jeopardy on WPVI. Never has been. FYI Philly has been on for years, a successor to a previous public affairs show. Come football season, news moves to 7 and FYI to 7:30.

Acting like stations are somehow slighting a game show by making business decisions is a bit odd.

All 4 news channels in the Hartford/New Haven market blew out all programming tonight due to Severe Thunderstorms and Tornado Warnings. Non-stop weather coverage started just before 6PM.

WFSB pre-empting Eyewitness News at 6, CBS Evening News, Inside Edition, and Entertainment Tonight.

WTNH pre-empting News 8 at 6, ABC World News, Jeopardy!, and Wheel.

WVIT pre-empting NBC Connecticut News at 6, NBC Nightly News, Extra, and Access.

WTIC-TV pre-empting Two 1/2 Men x 2 and Big Bang x 2.

If there was high viewer interest and it was likely to be a good business decision, sure. But we all know that's a ridiculous comparison.

What does it matter if they air a few Little League World Series games?

WNBC 4 has tonight's Giants/Bengals game from 7-10, pre-empting Extra, Access, The Wall, Ellen's Game of Games, and potentially Law & Order SVU if there's overrun. None of the shows are getting make-goods nor are bumped to its subchannel (Cozi TV).

Sometimes, ABC airs a couple hours of Match Game reruns on Sunday afternoons.

I've said before that the networks should fill weekend afternoons with some sort of programming, even if it isn't sports. Just put on something on to keep local stations from filling the time with infomercials.

Speaking of whicn, there will be no sports on CBS this coming Saturday, and WREG CBS 3 in Memphis is filling the time with guess what - infomercials AGAIN. I'd rather see little league baseball or flag football than this junk. :p

Also in Memphis WMC NBC 5 will be carrying the New Orleans Saints vs. the New York Jets Saturday night, pre-empting NBC programming. But considering it's a Saturday night the game will probably do better.

A special session of the Tennessee State Legislature pre-empting some of the pledge programming today.

Wheel of Fortune was pre-empted by NFL on 12 affiliates yesterday, with make-goods on 10 of them:

  • Huntsville, AL - WAFF/NBC (no make-good)
  • Alaska - All ABC affiliates: KYUR Anchorage, KATN Juneau, KJUD Juneau (bumped to 1:37 AM)
  • Denver, CO - KDVR/FOX (bumped to 3:30 AM)
  • Washington, DC - WJLA/ABC (no make-good)
  • Peoria, IL - WMBD/CBS (bumped to 1:37 AM)
  • Cedar Rapids/Waterloo, IA - KWWL/NBC (bumped to .2 CW sub. This is the first time they're doing this move. In the past, WOF would get bumped to Saturday night at 1:02 AM)
  • Baltimore, MD - WBFF/FOX (bumped to 3:30 AM)
  • Boston, MA - WBZ/CBS (bumped to 2:37 AM)
  • Marquette, MI - WLUC/NBC (bumped to .2 FOX sub, which already airs WOF on Mondays due to a weekly local show on NBC)
  • Raleigh/Durham, NC - WTVD/ABC (bumped to .2 Live Well Network sub; LWN's "Food Rush" still listed)

Jeopardy! was affected on half of these stations: ABC Alaska, KDVR, WJLA, and WBZ.

Tonight, CBS is airing a national preseason game (Bills/Lions) starting at 8:00 Eastern, so this will pre-empt locals and syndies out West. Since there's no primetime lineup tonight, this gives stations more room to do make-goods of these shows since they don't have to take all the overnight slots with primetime make-goods.

WBNS Columbus will be overriding the Bills/Lions game with tonight's Browns/Buccaneers game, bumping the other game to its .2 Heroes & Icons sub. Despite this, they will not be bumping WOF there even though that is affected by the local game; it will instead air on the main station at 1:37 AM.

Isn't Jeopardy and Wheel in repeat until fall?
