They preempted that for this?

The Fox suits couldn't have been pleased with that. Boxing pay-per-views often run over when fighters decide to play mind games with their opponents and delay leaving their locker rooms, or when judges take forever to turn in their scorecards, or when celebrity interviews or pre-match introductions stretch on and on, but that shouldn't happen with a TV card, especially one for which no spectators are allowed. I wonder what happened last night. (And no, I wasn't watching -- had intended to but completely forgot about it. Now that other sports are around, it's going to be easier to forget the ones that sustained me during the dark days of May and June.)

Both fights before the main event went the distance. First fight went 12 rounds and second fight went 6 rounds. Those two fights alone took up almost the whole 2 hours that was listed in the guides. Main event started a few minutes before 9 CDT and also went the full 12 rounds.

Wait a minute! It was scheduled for two hours? Not three? That's ridiculous.

They should have recorded the six-rounder earlier in the evening and run it as the second fight if the first 12-rounder ended in an early-rounds KO. If the first fight went the distance, they could go right to the main event and use the six-rounder (or highlights of it) to fill out whatever was left after the main event and its post-fight analysis and interviews.

FOX always has it scheduled for 2 hours. Same when they had the UFC on there
Boxing usually runs up to 2 1/2 hours but this one ran super long
and its no different then when they schedule MLB for 3 hours and it goes 4+ hours ;)

I guess all those three-hour ESPN shows earlier this summer got me thinking that was the norm for Fox as well.

WJZY preempted the 8pm airing of MasterChef last night for a Back to School Special at 8 and a Panthers kickoff special at 8:30. If they were still an O&O the specials would’ve probably aired at 7 and 7:30. But a rerun so no biggie. The 8pm MasterChef aired at 11pm and Extra aired at midnight. Dish Nation was bumped to 1am and TMZ to 1:30am. Access Hollywood remained at 12:30am.

FOX is adding an MLB pregame show at 6:30 PM Eastern starting this week, affecting more programming for most affiliates. WNYW loses TMZ, but it's hardly a loss since the episode repeats the next day at 4:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

This week was supposed to be the game at 'field of dreams' site in Iowa so that's why there was a pregame scheduled. The game was cancelled last week so assume FOX just kept the pregame.
It was probably a one time shot as the only FOX Thursday mlb left is two weeks from today

This is how WSYT in Syracuse moved around their shows today. They have no daytime or evening newscasts.

Their usual lineup:
3:00 - Judge Judy x 2 (C/D runs)
4:00 - The People's Court
5:00 - Hot Bench x 2
6:00 - Judge Judy x 2 (A/B runs)
7:00 - Wheel of Fortune
7:30 - Jeopardy!

Thursday's lineup:
3:00 - Judge Judy x 2
4:00 - Hot Bench x 2
5:00 - Judge Judy
5:30 - Wheel of Fortune
6:00 - Jeopardy!
6:30 - MLB Pregame

On the previous MLB Thursdays, WOF/J! aired at 6:00 and 6:30, with Judge Judy's B run at 5:30. Oddly, today's changes were not reflected in most TV listings, though they were during the prior weeks. The People's Court is gone (odd that they give priority to Hot Bench over TPC given the latter is far more popular), however another run of it airs at 1:00 PM. The daytime lineup is all court shows until the evening game show duo. This also has to be the first time in a long time that an American station aired WOF this early. To my knowledge, the last time anyone in the US aired WOF before 6:00 PM Eastern was back on February 7 when KQTV ABC 2 in St. Joseph, MO aired it at 5:00 ET/4:00 CT due to a Chiefs Super Bowl victory special in its usual 6:30 slot that night.

MLB overran to 10:29 PM Eastern, and that was with the ninth inning ending early thanks to the score being 2-4 at the end of the top. The sixth inning in particular took very long. There were at least two commercial breaks in the bottom half alone for reviews. WNYW and WTXF began their newscasts at 10:33. On KDVR in Denver, Jeopardy! was fully pre-empted and Wheel of Fortune cut in around 8:31 Mountain during the contestant intros.

I never really get why FOX goes to commercial as soon as the game ends, only to come back for ~60 seconds to show the final scores one more time and then properly sign off.

To make sure the viewers think there's more to come -- a full wrap-up, interviews, etc. -- and wait through the commercials to see it. It doesn't matter what the content is. The viewers could be being played for total suckers; the advertisers are the beneficiaries.

This will shorten many 6pm newscasts to 30 minutes, including WJZY’s.

no it won't. If you saw my response right below that it was a one off due to originally being the "Field of Dreams" game in Iowa

Looking at guide listings on 8/27 there is no pregame on FOX. Game starts at 6pm CDT.

Ah, didn’t see your response.

WSOC, as the official station of the Panthers, is bumping America’s Funniest Home Videos, Shark Tank and The Good Doctor to 12:05am to 3:05 am tonight to air a replay of the 2015 NFC Championship game which is airing right now. All Panthers affiliates are airing this game this weekend at some point. They will be airing two other classic Panthers games as well the next two weekends as a replacement for the cancellation of preseason. Not sure when WSOC will air the classic game next weekend, as ABC is scheduled to air the Lakers game next Saturday night and has WNBA and the NBA Saturday and Sunday. Maybe next Sunday night. They also aired a pregame/season preview show at 7pm.

KMSP FOX 9 Minneapolis is going to air a Vikings/Green Bay game from 2016 (First game in US Bank Stadium...ironically the game was on NBC) from 6-9 tonight. FOX programming gets moved to 11pm-2am

It is probably because the preseason was cancelled...the Panthers affiliates are also airing classic games as I stated above. WSOC, the ABC affiliate, aired a game that was actually on FOX. (The 2015 NFC championship).

The DNC (and the RNC next week) at 10 ET/7 PT Monday-Thursday results in most Pacific Time Zone stations moving their 7:00 hour shows to the 10:00 hour. The only exceptions I can see are the three California-based NBC O&O's: KNBC 4 in LA, KNTV 11 in San Fran, and KNSD 7 in San Diego. All three are airing reruns of Dateline NBC instead of their 7:00 hour syndies (Access Hollywood/All Access on the former two, Wheel of Fortune/Jeopardy! on the latter).

The first night of DNC overran by about 10 minutes. This resulted in the East Coast delaying the late-night lineup accordingly. The West Coast did the same with their 8:00 and 9:00 PT shows, and played catch-up at either 10:10 or 10:40 depending on the shows, such that the 11:00 news would begin on time.

Most West Coast stations that scheduled Jeopardy! at 10:00 and Wheel of Fortune at 10:30, such as KHQ Spokane, KLAS Las Vegas, and KGO San Francisco, aired Jeopardy! in full from 10:10-10:40, then JIP'd Wheel of Fortune no earlier than the end of the first round. However, all stations that scheduled those shows in the opposite order, such as KOMO Seattle and KNDO Yakima, JIP'd Wheel at 10:10 and showed Jeopardy! on schedule at 10:30.
