They preempted that for this?

From the AVS Forum:

Looks like our abc station is skipping the ufl game today according to tv guide due to the outdated e/i programming requirement and joel olsten again.

I'm surprised no one on this thread has mentioned WDIV Detroit. It and other Post-Newsweek stations have been notorious for preempting network programs.

From Wikipedia:

WDIV-TV - Wikipedia

WDIV shifts many of their preempted NBC shows to non-sister station WADL, where they air in crappy 4:3 SD.

WADL (TV) - Wikipedia

Long before it became a P-N station WKMG (then WCPX) preempted the CBS daytime lineup in the 80s and early 80s. In 1982 they preempted The $25,000 Pyramid for Mary Tyler Moore reruns they did air Child’s Play however. But beginning in 1983 they preempted both Pyramid and PYL for Hour Magazine. They preempted the CBS daytime lineup except for TPIR.

Must of been a last minute change but WOI 5 (ABC) pre-empted Entertainment Tonight and Celebrity Wheel of Fortune for WNBA Basketball Indiana Fever and Atlanta Dream from 6pm to 8pm.

Celebrity Wheel of Fortune will air at 1:05am and Entertainment Tonight will air at 2:05am.

I think maybe a week ago they got the agreement with WOI and some other affiliates
Yup 8 days ago

I was wondering because on Sunday it still said Celebrity Wheel of Fortune when I set it to record.

What do you use to record and guide? Tivo? Cable?
Reason I ask is TiVo can be very slow on updating guide whereas some companies like Directv stream it can update within an hour. As example yesterday’s Twins games were rained out. It was on local TV here in Mankato and other markets. Within an hour of mlb posting it was postponed Directv stream had the guide updated. TiVo I tried at 6:45 pm (5 hours after decision) and it didn’t update.
(We get Directv stream at the apartment complex included in rent but I still use my TiVo for OTA programming)
I looked at guide for Iowa and WOI shows the basketball game in the cable guide and OTA.

Tivo on Dish Network

In Albany, WNYT Ch 13 preempted the 10am hour of NBC game shows from 1981 until they gave the slot back to affiliates in 1991. They also preempted everything NBC aired at 12 noon in favor of the news until the timeslot was given back to affiliates on March 24, 1989. The only way to see the early part of NBC game shows was WKTV Ch 2 Utica at 10:30am. WKTV preempted the 10am half hour in favor of Romper Room. When the 12 noon slot was given back, WKTV aired everything from the 10am half hour at 12 noon on tape delay until the 10am hour was given back in 1991.

Re: Do your station still pre-empts network shows for local sports?

On now-defunct Guiding Light, Sacramento's then-CBS affiliate KXTV (now ABC) dropped it in 1992, and when KXTV and KOVR swapped in 1995, KOVR refused to do the same thing and even as a CBS O&O. Pretty uncommon for a network O&O station not clearing a show broadcast by their network. Fox's Weekend Marketplace, different story.

Congress, the NAB, and the FCC screwed us on the SHVERA and later STELA laws on distant network feeds. It would be nice if they let us watch network programming (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX from NYC East/LA West) on like DirecTV for example on satellite incase of a local station pre-empts it for local or nonsense stuff. But never happen to satellite subs.

Don’t forget Syndex

You are very much right. I lived with my grandmother the majority of my life in rural southeast Alabama and all she had were NBC, CBS, and Fox, When we got the Primestar Christmas 1995 we subscribed to the distant channels that had all four networks. Then those stupid laws came into effect and no more ABC. There were also some certain shows that no station in southeast Alabama picked up. So I was SOL most of the time.

The local ABC affiliates in our market were WDHN in Dothan and WNCF in Montgomery. As they were UHF stations they were inaccessible.

That's how we got to see most of our shows on broadcast was the distant channels on Primestar when we got it in 1995 and then the distant channels on directv when we had to switch in 1999 or 2000. Having the east and west coast channels helped as they either pre-empted for sports or the weather was bad that the channels were fuzzy and the channels didn't come in very good.
