They've seen the lite...

Say goodbye to Whoopie. Melissa Foreman is back in am drive, AND pm drive (via VT). Now all they need to do is get rid of Delilah. My question is how is having only 2 live shows a positive thing in light of the impending PPM? I hear that excuse and am wondering where is the logic?

I'm very happy about Melissa Forman coming back to do mornings at
WLIT. Maybe this show would be even better if she had a sidekick.
Maybe Hammerin' Hank(myself). Here would be my dream Lite line-up

5-10am Melissa and Hanky

10-3pm Robin Rock

3-7pm Victor Zaragoza

7-midnight Dreena Gonzalez

Any thoughts?

What impressed me was that Darren Davis said "I obviously made a mistake". I don't think I have ever seen a programmer say those words before. It was a mistake. I have female relatives who went from being P1 listeners of WLIT to not even listening to the station at all when they took Melissa off mornings and replaced her with Whoppi.

This is the second large market station to cancel Whoppi. KKSF/San Francisco no longer runs her show either.

Ok my friends.
I saw this post and could not resist the urge to comment. The "Lite" has been failing since Darren Davis took over. This guy is a complete idiot and cannot not run a race, let alone a radio station.

The only reason the Lite pulls any shares is because the Holiday season and office workers, thats it.

This guy has been a puppet since he began his reign as head shovel-head. The decision to fire foreman was not Darren, it was corporate. The Whoopster had a multi station agreement and as all suits do, decided to screw with precision. I think Mel is good, not great but good. I know her and she is a nice person. With that said. Darren was doing a little a$$ kissing to the suits and taking the blame for the mashup. Typical Chicago PD brown-nosing. He will be let go in 2 years or less. Watch.

Whoopie is horrible, she will be booted from the view in 1 year. She is a half baked comedian.

So, as for the new lineup, don't hold your breath. Chicago radio changes like the wind.

Mistake? I’m thinking this was a WLIT public relations angle at its best. Turning a negative into a positive. WLIT saves paying syndication fees for Whoopi to draw flies and little else. Yet, this move to voice track Forman in the afternoon is not something to be swept under the rug as if it is also a positive.

It’s bad enough that overnights have gone away from Chicago (and most markets) and taken away the chance for up and coming talent to develop and work toward movin’ on up to other dayparts. Now, we are told that a station in Chicago won’t even have a live personality in afternoon drive?

While my hunch is they’ll fill it with a real person once the Whoopi money is paid off, this still should not be treated as a positive. It is an insult to the radio industry and to WLIT’s audience. The morning personality is heard in the afternoon? And not even live??

This isn’t like The Mix playing morning show “highlights” at 8 PM. We’re talking afternoon drive in Chicago.

No way this covers up the “we made a mistake” positive approach. At least it shouldn’t.

Excellent PR. Great spin WLIT put on it.

However, incredibly ignorant to have two jocks on for 12+ hours in the age of PPM. WTMX and WILV must be ecstatic - they will surely gain bored WLIT listeners after the x-mas music is done.

Davis is as good as gold in the company. It is his pre-programmed Christmas list that most of the other Clear Channel stations use through the season.

Unfortunately, he is a poor AC programmer. Note the damage he did in Detroit. However, failing in the CC culture does not have any affect on a person's career. If you want to survive and thrive, you must be willing to enthusiastically drive the car off the cliff. And Darren is one of the best sycophants in the business. Let's give him his due.

Giving someone props for being good at being a sycophant is hardly a compliment. Even being bad at it is nothing to write home about. But ya know, you are right. It is what it is. I think that's a horrible shame on CC. They've created a stable of conqubines.

Darren is a good programmer, but he is actually better at making the CC brass think he is a genious. Think about it, adding Whoopi was a no-lose situation for him. If it works, great. If it dies, he has something to point at that is out of his control. Either way, he is seen as supporting the companies initiative.

As for putting Melissa on mornings AND afternoons, why not? Try something different...

Note the damage he did in Detroit

Don't know if that is fair, although the station looks like it has improved since he left.

Exactly. Just what I said. :)

Allow me to prognosticate for a second. Though I consider Melissa one of the best talents in the country, using her twice in a day will be overkill, and it will be one more nail in the coffin.

And Davis will keep his job.

also, they don't have Flashback weekeneds anymore. What else is Lite trying to do. A part of me is saying that something "BIG" is going to happen for this station after Christmas. What about you?
