How about Gaffers & Sattler (appliances) and Snowdrift (cooking lard)?

In case anyone cares- Gaffers and Sattler was bought out by Maytag years ago (which, by buyout makes them now a Whirlpool brand), and from what I've seen, turned them into a very low-end brand (as in the $199 stoves then stores use to get you in- and never have)- and as that was a few years ago, I'm not sure if the brand is still in use.

Snowdrift lard- have heard of it, but don't have the foggiest of what- if anything- became of the brand.

In the name of absolute accuracy, but, not to dwell on something 99.99% of people don't care about anyways...

Gaffers and Sattler were actually bought out by the Magic Chef company- about 1969 if my research is correct.

Magic Chef was bought out by Maytag sometime after that.

There, I feel better......My bad......

Say for example Saturday Night Live decided to a skit making fun of James Dobson & Focus On The Family. Could Dobson & Focus force SNL to give them "equal time"?

First of all, rules for "equal time" were repealed several years ago.

...my understanding is that they weren't so much repealed as President Reagan ordered they not be enforced by the FCC. Thus, the regs are on the books today but no President since then has bothered to countermand Reagan's order...

...but you are right on the rest; since Dobson is a public figure, he's open to satire, outside the realm of the Fairness Doctrine...

First of all, rules for "equal time" were repealed several years ago. Secondly, even when Equal Time was in effect, satire and parodies were exempt. Thirdly, Equal Time was for broadcasters only, not cable -- meaning that South Park could poke fun at Phelps, if they wanted to.

About "pastor" Fred Phelps one thing to consider is that he was a lawyer. I believe his daughter ( daughter-in-law ) Shirley still is. Of course the "rumors" for many years was that the Phelps would sue anyone for any reason and the money they get from those settlements pays for their trips/protests. I am sure the comedy writers of shows like SNL and South Park kept that bit of "info" back in their heads. Of course on the other hand, of all of those lawsuits the Phelps were supposed to be involved with over the years, the names of people who were sued by them, well for the most part that is a mystery. In other words, rumor !!!!!

Kinda like the stories I have heard in recent years about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. See them in public, look at them in the eye...they will sue you. Of course how many people were actually sued by Cruise/Holmes over that? Names?

Might make for funny oddball celebrity gossip even if there isn't any truth to it.

Who would have thought something from one of NBC's lowest points, Pink Lady and Jeff, would be found today on DVD? Many things I've seen from TV's past on the internet were things I'd completely forgotten or I wouldn't think I'd see ever again.
I loved "Pink Lady and Jeff" yet remember little of the show cause I was 10 at the time. Jeff Altman would go on to have some appearances on another show that I loved. He portrayed Hughie Hogg on the "Dukes of Hazzard". I'm not sure what he's up to these days.

After those 2 shows, I'd expect him to be in a witness protection program.

Agreed! But Altman is still using his given name, and working mostly as a stand-up comic, I think. Letterman likes him, and has him on occasionally. Naturally, You Tube has a couple of clips.

"Barbara, you up?" is from a Sucrets throat lozenge commercial. Look about 3/4ths of the way down http://www.inthe80s.com/tvcommercials/s.shtml

I remember the Pepto ad, too.

I remember it well too...end of commercial..."Barbera is awake playing solitaire with her light on her side of the bed on...out Q..."I'm glad one of us can sleep!"

This one's been in the back of my mind since I was about 8...I could swear there was an episode of Starskey & Hutch where a girl walked by them either totally topless or in a see through bikini top.

There was a similar scene in an episode of Baywatch where I think "C.J"'s stalker was having a dream sequence about her & he sees her in a(visible) sheer (top & bottom) nightgown! plain as day on T.V.(for about 4 seconds).

And finally...Mr. Jingaling. I know there's a website, but i don't know if you can get episodes of the original Mr. Jingaling show on DVD.

The jingle for the old lemonade juice from concentrate called "Lemon Tree", circa 1980..."Squeeze the thirst out of me...Lemon Tree, Lemon Tree, Lemon tree...:

the commercial for a soft drink called "Teem" with guys out in the desert heat eating dry chips in the sun...with the announcer saying:..."Build your thirst...build it 'til you can't take it anymore...then BLOW IT AWAY WITH TEEM".

Reminds me of the "Nestea Plunge" ads where the guy dumps a whole pitcher of Nestea on his head & doesn't even drink any! :D

Oop! Just thought of another that I NEVER can find anything about but watched it all the time as a kid (76-77), and it's not "Speed Buggy"...
It was these kids that drove around an old beat up jeep or dune buggy but it would turn into this awesome hot rod when they went to solve a mystery or sescue someone...all I remember is one of the character's had blue curly hair & would always go..."WHOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOWDY!!! THIS IS NASHVILLE FIIIIVE-HUNDRED!!!
It kinda had the same graphics as "Land of the Lost" & may have been a Sid & Marty Krofft Production...anybody??? ???

The show you are looking for is Wonderbug and was on the Kroft Supershow on ABC Saturday Mornings Here is the link to see the show opener: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQnnZOJSlh0.

Does anyone remember those shorts called Friends with the catch phrase, "Let's Be Friends"? I think it ran during the Rocky and Bullwinkle show but I could be wrong.

Thanks!
I wish someone like TVLand or someone would run reruns of "In The News" with Christopher Glenn.

I remember another one: It was a commercial for Dow antifreeze around 1976.

It featured the red antifreeze bottle going "buh-bump, buh-bump, buh-bump" - like a heartbeat.

Anyone remember this? I was only about 3, but I know I saw this!

TV Land once did, the first two years or so after they started up. After the started showing paid ads, they discontinued them.

I need to patent this idea & sell it to Nickelodeon/MTV...
an entire t.v channel just called " Retro Saturday Morning"...that only runs Saturday Morning shows from 70's & 80's. Scooby, Shazam!, Smurfs, Sid & Marty Kroft stuff, In The News, Fraggel Rock, Land of the Lost, ;) etc...I think it would be a great idea.

Except that you may have to do without the Hanna-Barbera shows, now that Time Warner owns them and would rather save them for their own channels (especially Cartoon Network).

How about the Ayds diet plan?

Not sure about the spelling of the brand or whatever it changed
its name after the you-know-what disease that sounds the same
as the brand became mainstream.

I had a similar idea for Turner Classic Movies. At one time they were running Cartoon Alley on Saturday mornings, which had classic theatrical cartoons from the Cartoon Network library, and they have occasionally run serials like Superrman a year or so back, and more recently Zorro. I thought they should fill Saturday mornings with classic cartoons, serials, and shorts like Laurel and Hardy, and I even suggested it on their message board. Unfortunately Cartoon Alley was dropped at about the same time that Cartoon Network and Boomerang dropped WB cartoons, and the serials are only run occasionally. TCM has Laurel and Hardy shorts, but most are run at times when they feature blocks of their shorts or movies, and not on a regularly scheduled basis.

Plus the commercials(leading into the real ones) would be retro(like Nick, but more of a variety)
..."Before I slam my gorilla dunkies...I get the eaties for my Wheaties!"

That sounds like a great idea...too bad after about 6 months, Viacom would start screwing around with the channel and putting on great cartoons as "Extreme Makeover", "Next", "My Super Sweet 16" and "SpongeRobertCircleShorts". Oh wait, that's Nickelodeon, the all SpongeBob/Dora channel!

Nevermind :D

Remember "The Incredibly Strange Picture Show" hosted by Jonathan Ross on the Discovery Channel all too breifly in the mid 1990s?

For fans of campy cult movies everywhere.

And:

"Trailer Park" with host Tom Davis on the Sci-Fi Channel in the late 1990s
Davis was just down right funny with his reviews of monster, horror and sci-fi prevues from the 1950s and 60s.

Ah, yes, Al Franken's former SNL partner in crime...Was one of the movies "The Recount That Wouldn't Die?"
