Alaska Things you'll only hear on the radio in Alaska

I just went on air at 1045 to announce a bear had been spotted within the populated city limits and where it was.. i regularly announce moose spottings too.

If told in a timely fashion, I do it anytime, if im awake.. in local programming or not. If not running local programming, i fire off a new sounder, give it about 15 seconds to catch peoples attention and then say what ive got to say

An air check of that might be a fun thing to listen to here in the heat of the desert...

You make me think of Chris, that omnipresent "K-Bear" deejay on the Northern Exposure TV series. He'd do bear announcements, moose announcements, plus tons of trivial news you'd only hear on a tiny town station.

A few years ago, a bear was roaming around my area of Mesa AZ, and it got TV coverage on at least KTVK (which I was watching), if not the others. Unfortunately, it didn't come down my street. But when when it gets hot, and water and food get scarce in the mountains, they are known for wandering into some of the adjacent neighborhoods. Hasn't happened this year yet, but with a wildfire raging about 20 miles away, I wouldn't rule it out, somewhere in the area.
