Thinking of Returning to L.A, and.... Actually, That Pretty Much Wraps it up...

Many times in the past, I've been to L.A. and enjoyed it, but I never had the feeling of wanting to stay as much as I did this time around! Now I want to go back! I know some of my family members will probably assume "He only wants to live there because he heard some station..." but there's much more to it than that.

There's something about L.A. that I like, but would I still enjoy it as much LIVING there? Who knows...

As far as stations go, my fav's that I know of right now are

KBIG 104.3
KAMP 97.1
KPWR 105.9
KJLH 102.3
KFI 640
KXOL 96.3

And I'm pretty sure they have a pretty good alternative station out there as well, which I haven't got around to checking out yet. It may not be all that it used to be a few years back, but I must say L.A. radio is pretty interesting and fun, with Power 106 being a big part for why this is true.

Well, I'm sure I'll be back rather soon, and when I return, I'll have much more to say about the radio stations there. Who knows, L.A. just MIGHT become my new home... But as of right now, I am back in Phoenix enjoying KZON, and I must say the winner when it comes to which station served me the best while I was in L.A. goes to..............

It's a very hard choice, because there are a few factors that I use to determine this, but I've got to say, the station that I enjoyed most would be..................................... Power 106!!!!

I didn't think this would happen again since the late 90's, but they are just damn good at what they do and how they do it! Amp 97.1 is fun and I enjoy it more musically, but Power 106 is more fun and active, while being able to maintain some level of variety as well! if it weren't for the DJ's and Mixshows on Power 106, Amp 97.1 would have won for me BIG time. There was a time when 99.1 KGGI, 103.1 Groove Radio, Power 106, 102.7 KIIS fm, B100.3... etc were all my favorites, but times have changed. Never thought that in the "end", Power 106 would still be the one to win me over again, but they sure do put in a lot of hard work to make the station fun, even though certain songs they play may not necessarily be my favorite.

I surely do hope that KAMP 97.1 finds some GOOD dj's to play GOOD music in DECENT mix shows, at some pretty good times throughout the day and week. If anything, hopefully they try their best to be at the least just as fun and interesting mixshow-wise as their competition.

Nice write up! It sounds like you have basically decided that LA is in your future.

KPWR has no choice but to work really hard to make the station fun and exciting because they have lots of competition!

Wait, so you might move to LA just for the radio stations? HAHAHA! That's why they have online streams my friend! ;)

My man is young; he'll get over it one day. I remember when I was an early teenager being worried about a day that I might have to move from LA (the only home I'd ever known) to another town where they don't have KMET. What would I do if that were to happen? Fortunately, KMET left me several years later on its own when I was mature enough to know that there is more to life than the radio dial. But my man is still young and having fun. Let him.

Hey, great enthusiasm!

Radio listening ... a great reason to move to the City of Angels!  Life is good here! Don't let "the big one" scare you off and, with Power as your fave, you'll not sweat the fact that L.A. is $5-billion in debt, cannot find a place to bury Michael Jackson and the state government is so "Power"ful, that it has plunged the state into near bankruptcy with no economy and a $24-billion debt!

And radio? Oh, yeah, it is thriving!

You've got so much time on your hands to listen, why, it will take you a year to catch all you can on the radio dial! It's a radio thrill ride that rivals any amusement park!  And if you like voicetracked stations in any format, and infomercials, too ... why, you've come to the right place!

Forget online streams!  You need to be here and be a part of it all.

We need the money. You do have a job, right? Or are rich? Welcome to La La land!

Re: Thinking of Returning to L.A, and.... Actually, That Pretty Much Wraps it up

There is a certain something about LA, that's for sure. For one, I would say it is the free-est (i.e., the most free) city in the US, maybe the world. One is not expected to be anything but him- or herself here. Rich or poor, conservative or liberal, black or white (or hispanic or asian), gay or straight, engineer or screenwriter, old or young, etc. And then, of course, you have the sunshine, the ocean, the mountains, the deserts. Overall, LA has an optimistic atmosphere and I think this comes through in our radio stations, especially the music stations. Even when our talk stations sound like they are ranting, they are doing it all tongue in cheek, just so we can laugh at ourselves.

There you go. Glad you had a good time. Come visit us again....

Re: Thinking of Returning to L.A, and.... Actually, That Pretty Much Wraps it up

Well my freedom is what is most important to me, which most people who know me would confirm... I'm not materialistic and obsessed with money. I'd rather pay more to be free than to be rich around people who all expect me to be like a "puppet on a string" or conform to the way they believe I should live.

The city of Los Angeles does look great, although, with second thought, many of the stations do not reflect that this is supposed to be a large international city.... well, at least on the rhythmic and top 40 side of things. Very limited selection of music. I think I get more of what I really like to hear on Phoenix radio than in L.A, now in 2009. Other than that, L.A. seems cool, even though Phoenix might be safer. No dance hits... but the adult ac / hit stations and the latin rhythmic there seems to be pretty good though.

Sight seeing the thousands of places in California and going to the beach will be fun. I love L.A., but do I really want to live there? Vacationing is always cool, but once you live somewhere, it kills the vacation feel of it.... unless of course it is Hawaii, which I heard even has a dance station! Hmmmm... . Anyway, I guess I'll try L.A, maybe as soon as the end of this week. I was really supposed to be there now. I know there are also many more opportunities in L.A. as well. Phoenix currently has less competition, but L.A. has more opportunity.

Re: Thinking of....... um, LONDON!

FORGET L.A, I AM GOING TO LONDON!!!!

I'm so excited, and I don't even know where to start, so I'll just end it here.

THE END.

I read the article in the O.C Register about the ratings of the radio stations in O.C. It mentioned

KOST-FM and JACK-FM tie at No. 6 in O.C., but No. 8 is KSWD/100.3 FM The Sound (No. 27 in LA).

KSWD program director Dave Beasing said, "We're thrilled. Listeners in Orange County tell us they're tired of hearing the same songs over and over from the same old corporate L.A. stations. We really appreciate that the O.C. is supporting the underdog."

I don't know if you can say the playlist on 100.7 the sound is any better than the other radio stations in Los Angeles or KLOS. I find K-BIG 104 and the HD station for 104.3 which is Pride Radio. Both can have some good music. I also find JILL-FM 92.7 to have some good music that's better than Jack. Most of the stuff I find on the classic rock stations are not the actual classic songs I like. KLOS or the others like the Octopus or KTYD 99.9 to only have a few songs I will like.
