If you were not so blinded by your desire to try to impress the message board with how well you spout left-wing talking points and buzzwords, you'd see that at no point did I imply favoring censorship or denying anybody's First Amendment right to freedom of speech. Luckily, I'm a patient guy, and I have faith that your powers of comprehension will increase with practice.

Obviously you were enflamed by my choice of contrasting radio formats. Let's start again, except replace "talk radio" with "smooth jazz radio." Perhaps that will extinguish your pointless blather about President Bush, the war, Halliburton, how the military planned 9/11, how Saddam Hussein and Donald Rumsfeld are old drinking buddies, how Ronald Reagan is still alive and plotting nuclear war against Canada, and how the Fox News Channel is no different from al-Jazeera, save for the faces of the anchors.

Do you think that the music heard on CHR adversely affects kids? Yes or no?

This online lashing is almost as fun to watch as it was to learn that thinkingman (aka rob wilbur)got fired from WSBA a few years back! karma is key!

Yeah, it is kinda fun. What was his last question? Oh, yeah: "Do you think that the music heard on CHR adversely affects kids? Yes or no?"

Well, Rob, when I was a kid in the sixties they used to ask the same question about Top 40 (they had sex back then, too)--and I seemed to turn out okay (a Notre Dame grad). My own children had their ears defiled by both rock & rap in the nineties--and they turned out fine (both Catholic University grads). Just a wild hunch, but my bet is that today's kids won't be too traumatized. BTW, how did you turn out? Or did your parents put condoms over your ears?

No, Mike, they didn't.

Pissing match aside, thank you for your answer. It's really all I wanted to know from you. I'm glad your kids turned out all right.

Although as a child I was raised mainly by cattle (the milking kind) I find this topic to become "utterly" boring after awhile, as it is one's own opinion as to how a child should be raised, or what is offensive on the radio. I pulled many a "teet" while being mezmorized by WLS as a child. Did I turn out OK ? The jury is definately out on that one, but I am still a proud "Dairy Farmer"

In the 60's Elvis was on the Ed Sullivan show and he did this weird thing with his pelvis that had everyone in an uproar. Back then people said he'd ruin our kids. He sold a LOT of records but the kids turned out ok.

In the 70's people got into an uproar over Pink Floyd's suggestive lyrics "We don't need no eductation...." School boards everywhere vowed it would lead to kis becomming violent toward their teachers...tht never hapenned.

In the 80's it was Twisted Sister's "We're not gonna take it" which Tipper Gore herself launched a crusade because the lyrics were too harsh for her little kids ears. Her fight failed, no one was hurt over the song and today its played at many sporting events as a "get the fans riled up song".

Every period in time has its controversial artists but somehow we survive the controvesy and we turn out ok. I listened to songs in the 80's and early 90's that curled my Mom's hair but she left me go and I turned out ok....although I many be permenantly scared from the fact I can sing every word to "BOOM BOOM BOOM LET'S GO BACK TO MY R0OM SO WE CAN DO IT ALL NIGHT..." I could go on forever on this but to sum it up...I am a dad AND I play that stuff on the radio on my shift and i think nothing of my kids hearing it. If I am doing MY job as a parent and teaching them values and good morals and building their self esteem they will be just fine!

The songs don't make or break our kids or their behavior...PARENTS DO!
