Third Day - No Point

I will say it again - how are consumers expected to take HD radio seriously if it doesn't deliver on its promise of STATIONS between the stations? Until broadcasters treat HD-2's just as seriously as they do analog and HD-1, and outages are just as urgent - consumers cannot be expected to buy HD radios to get the "stations between the stations", because HD radio is not delivering that promise. Meanwhile - KPBA 103.5, which has quite a few songs in common with the point, locked in perfect HD all the way down Fry road except for the pirate at Morton and Fry that broadcasts channel 11 audio for whatever reason. Go figure ---

Well, I guess we have our answer to the question they pose in one of their lines, "Are you getting The Point?" Nope, and thanks for asking.

Bruce, I think you need to inquire about a refund on that receiver, lol. Sure has caused you a lot of misery with 106-9 & 107-5.2 always off the air.

Nope - that Pioneer is a nice unit. I am thinking of retrofitting the other vehicles so I can get what is left of Houston HD-2's while HD radio is still around. I'm not convinced it will be in another 5 years, though, so I will probably not bother. It isn't worth it just for KPBA and occasional 98.7 out of Victoria.

I wish Pioneer's SatRad adapter for it wasn't $100, it would be nice to just use the head unit for it. As it is, I use the Aux input for a separate SatRad. The rest of Houston's HD-2/3 are pretty interesting, eclectic rock, Christian rock, indie rock, two smooth jazz, another oldies. I am sure ALL of them will go away if HD ever catches on with consumers, because the only reason they exist is to shut people up who want the formats. If HD gets popular, they will be so many more top-40, hip-hop, country, etc. like the main channels are now. I can't speak to what's out there for country music or Spanish language fans, but I am sure there are interesting things out there. AM HD is pretty much gone from the area - I don't even know if 1620 still broadcasts HD because Fry road is building out power lines along the whole length now. That leaves only portions of the Grand Parkway free of power line interference and potential AM HD reception areas. If WBAP sounds static free and like a local, probably AM HD is possible on locals or regionals. If I hear any static on WBAP - forget HD AM even on locals. That is the rule of thumb I use.

Lowry Mays of Clear Channel in 2003 testified before the US Senate that the deregulation of the telecommunications industry had not hurt the public. However, in an interview that same year with Fortune Magazine, he remarked, "We're not in the business of providing news and information. We're not in the business of providing well-researched music. We're simply in the business of selling our customers products."

IS anyone surprised???? SO more for the PUBLIC interest.....
