Third Time's A Charm? O&A To Return To WYSP

I'm told that this morning, Opie & Anthony hinted on their terrestrial trimulcast (New York, Boston and Cleveland) that they would return to WYSP for morning drive. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

It would be O&A's third go-round on 'YSP. Their first effort was cancelled in 2002 after an incident involving a major Catholic church in New York; and last year, O&A were replaced in mornings by then-afternooner Kidd Chris, around the time "the rock (was) back" on 94.1.

Let's all hope this is false information, if CBS has any brains they would take a look at the numbers and see O&A where a non-factor on their second go around.

They should seriously consider running with the current morning program...Awesome music and a perfect DJ for it!..

I emailed a noted Philly media columnist about these rumors, and he told me that he's heard "denials" to this point...

yeah, i think they WISH they were coming back to YSP, but i believe that ship has sailed -- unless they've put a red light special on their price tag. radio is notorious for recycling talent, especially in this market (see: barsky), but i doubt O&A will be back here.

How about putting O&A on WPHT and moving Smirconish back to afternoons? :) How are Sean Hannity's ratings in Philly?

Smirconish wants much greener pastures, now. Especially if it involves MNSBC. Look for moves with Scarborough to go to possibly ABC Radio after a trial run shortly.

With radio stocks, including Citadel ($.83 a share ... and it had a chance last Feb. to go to $2 a share and recover ... it didn't,) and CBS at its worst ever ... look for changes.

That sound you hear is that of investors looking for blood and heads on silver platters.

Don't drink the "Oh, it will come back" Kool-Aid. It's not about coming back now. It's about survival. Smirconish would be so lucky to get out for TV at this point.

And O & A in Philly for a third turn? Yeah ... maybe if they work for free ... like they are on XM. And that's even a debatable "slim to none" chance.

Don't hold your breath.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to see Scott Shannon's True Oldies with Imus as a closer, next, in Philadelphia. Anywhere.

I wish I could believe that. Based on past performance, my guess is that as long as the sales department can feather their nests, Baldini and Co. will continue to pick at the bare bones...
