This Guy Must Really Be Into His Work...

My most amazing catch, which seems almost impossible, but CONFIRMED by the station's engineer...

90.1 WRUV Burlington, VT 360 watts @ 1100 miles (August 2, 2005 5:50PM lasted for approx. 30 secs)

Seeing logs like his is REALLY forcing me closer to installing my 36-ft tower with the APS-13 on top.

Another DXer told me about this site after seeing my DXing webpage listed here. So I registered.
Greetings fellow DXers.

Nice catch from Vermont, DJK_31904... Aug 2, 2005 was a fine E skip opening. I caught that one myself with 2 stations logged from Vermont. The only opening in which I heard Vermont except for one brief repeat of one of the same stations last summer.
What are you using for DXing FM now?

My best catch since I started keeping track was 92.1 "Hitz FM" from Kingston, Jamaica(are the calls for Jamaican stations listed anywhere? Even their FCC equivalent wasn't any help and this is a state-owned station.) which was still stunting and hadn't fully gone live yet in October when I caught it.

They never sent the QSL, though. I wanted to put it on the wall with some of my Caribbean AM and TV catches.

My best e-skip catches are KGFC 88.9 (1343 miles) and KAAK 98.9 (1340 miles) from Great Falls, MT on July 25, 2003.

My best tropo catch was set last summer. I heard KBRK 93.7 from Brookings, SD. 634 miles away.

I'm not sure of Hitz FM's calls, but I believe Bahamian call letters begin with Z.

Nope, they actually begin with C6, but the prefix is dropped by broadcast stations just as it is in Australia.

Jamaica's prefix is 6Y, but I don't think any broadcast radio or TV outlet there ever mentions even a partial callsign.

Seeing as you're virtually in the same path as I am for Vermont DX... but you actually heard WRUV as well??? Same time I did??? All I can say is WOW, WOW, WOWEEE, WOW!!!!!!

My other good Vermont DX is 95.5 WXXX sometime in July that same year, which I initially thought was tropo from Atlanta (WBTS "95-5 The Beat"), until I heard the DJ say "only on 95 Triple-X." It was crystal clear, local-like for about 1 minute until it faded off into the static. Quebec is also a guaranteed log every summer. CHOM-FM is always guaranteed.

Right now the only DX machine I have is my Kenwood EZ-500 in the truck, which is where I logged both Vermont stations. I'm waiting to find the initiative to install my 36-ft telescoping mast in the backyard, topped with the rotor and APS-13. I've got all the equipment, just not the desire to do all the work involved! But seeing the logs here, and the strong passion I still have for FM DX, I can see it going up before the magical springtime tropo action starts.

For receiving equipment I use a Sony ST-SA50ES for general listening, an Onkyo T-450RDS for RDS reception, and the monster of them all, the Onkyo T-9090II for the tough ones. It sucks seeing them sitting on the table, idle, not being used.

Ah. Makes sense.

"Power 104.5" in Nassau, Bahamas has the call letters ZNS-FM. I have not seen any calls for the other Bahamians. To the best of my knowledge none of the Jamaican commercial radio stations have any assigned call letter identifiers. It's easy to identify Jamaican radio but figuring out where on the island they are is a mystery.

Sorry, I meant to say I too caught the same E skip opening to Vermont on 8/2/05... I did not hear WRUV though. 93.9 WLVB and 95.5 WXXX were heard and only Vermont FM's since. From Columbus, GA isn't Dothan's 95.5 WTVY strong? They are tough to get over from here beaming north or northeast.

WTVY is no longer very strong here. I believe they downgraded their overall signal with a tower move to improve coverage in Dothan a couple years or so ago. There are those days when the southern tropo brings WTVY in strong, but they can otherwise be easily nulled out.

The station that wreaks havoc where I live is 107.3 WCGQ (100kW). It creates a few problems in my tuners when aiming through them, as it's to my SSW at only 8 miles. Trying to get Panama City's 107.9 is a little upsetting with the desensitizing I get from 107.3. All other PC stations are easy to get, except for 107.9. Usually I have to offset the antenna by several degrees to escape the wrath of WCGQ in order to hear 107.9 at all.

The only other nearby powerhouse station I have is a 50kW'er at 89.5, broadcasting about 10 miles away NNW. Thankfully my tuners have no problems with that one.
