I was thinking about things and so happens that what if AMFM and Cox had not enter that agreement back in 1999 just before Clear Channel announced that they would merge with AMFM. With those AMFM stations and Clear Channel Stations that were in Jacksonville which ones would you have kept if you were Clear Channel (now remember this if Cox had not enter into that agreement with AMFM)

Here are the stations that were on the list:

Clear Channel--------------------AMFM

-WJBT 92.7-----------------------WBWL-AM 600
-WPLA 93.3-----------------------WOKV-AM 690
-WFSJ 97.9-----------------------WAPE 95.1
-WQIK 99.1-----------------------WKQL 96.9
-WSOL 101.5----------------------WMXQ 102.9
-WROO 107.3----------------------WFYV 104.5
-WNZS-AM 930

Now here are the stations I would take.

-WQIK
-WAPE
-WOKV
-WKQL
-WFYV
-WJBT
-WNZS
-WSOL

Now with that yes that would have put some strong siginal up for sale, considering that 92.7 is only 6kw I would keep it anyways for the point of being a good station.

Now here is the driver. After those five stations that were left Cox could had bought into the left overs or Infinity, Cumulus or Emmis could have bought into Jacksonville if that had happened.

Now think now do you think we would still have COOL 96.9 around and Lex & Terry on Rock 105 still if Clear Channel had owned to begin with. Well since that did not happen we will have fun with what we have now.

But for the FCC rules limiting the income share one company could control in a market after mergers.... think of it like a salary cap in sports.<P ID="signature">______________

It wasnt coincidence that AMFM spun the now-Cox stations before the CC merger.

The Jacksonville stations (and some others) were spun IN ANTICIPATION of the CC merger to avoid too much revenue &too many signals.

As CC never owened them, so never had the "option" of which to keep.

At the time CC controlled 11 signals! The SALEM stations (WJGR-AM, WZAZ-AM, WZNZ-AM and THE FISH) were also part of CC at the time (either via ownership or LMA).

Under the rules, LMA's count against your cap, CC got around that
because some of the signals were not Jacksonville-metro licenses (I am sure someone else has more knowledge on this).

There was minimal overlap of WSOL (Brunswick) and WFSJ (St Augustine). There was minimal overlap of WPLA (Callahan) and WJBT (Green Cove Springs).
