This is CBS. Infinity Re-branded As 'CBS Radio'

On one hand, it's nice to see the CBS name back in radio again. On the other, this HD bull is nonsense.
______________

Yay!
So, we can finally say, that Jack FM, FreeFM, and all those fine clusters around the country are owned by CBS!

And, WBZ radio can once again say that it has the same owners as WBZ T- I mean... CBS 4 Boston.

I just wonder what it means for 1010WINS AM in NY and News 980 KFWB in LA...

Define "rights".

All the Jack stations in the U.S. are not CBS-owned.

As an example, the San Diego Jack is owned by Jefferson-Pilot.
______________

That's a nice stretch, from discussing the return of the CBS Radio name to dissing HD.

Do I detect a personal agenda?
______________

ya.. I know that.. just was trying to make light of the situation.. I mean, both CBS and ABC having the same thing... I find that a bit funny. It is like Everybody Loves Raymond on primetime on both CBS and ABC.

If you must, I what I meant with rights are that some CBS stations have rights to the Jack name, as well as ABC with their satellite format. I didn't mean that they are the only ones with the rights, just thought it was funny that competators on TV have rights to the same format to a certain extent.
______________

I would imagine KFWB and WINS would downplay its connection to its newly branded
parent, since neither clears CBS News..

Viacom's billboard business is going into the "new CBS"...does it become "CBS Outdoor"?-Would be a problem for NBC/ABC stations to have ads on CBS billboards!

lol No :) The article the original post linked to quotes Joel Hollander mentioning HD as the future of radio, which really has absolutely nothing to do with the name change. Do I hate IB(A)C? Yes. Is it off this topic? Not really, as it was brought up in the article.
______________

You're right. I stand corrected and plead a temporary lapse in memory due to fatigue.

No. In fact, the TV networks advertise on their competing networks' radio counterparts. Plus, in some outdoor markets, they may have no real alternative.

I have a question

I saw the press release on Viacom's website.

It says that CBS Radio started in 1928

Is that true

I thought it started in 1927

United Independent Broadcasters went on the air in October, 1927.
Columbia Records invested in the company in 1928 and the name was changed to the Columbia Broadcasting System. Originally the full name was used, not the initials.
The name "CBS Radio" was not introduced until 1951. Before then, it was just "CBS, the Columbia Broadcasting System").

Not to mention that many competing radio and TV operations buy billboards with "Clear Channel Outdoor" visible as a large logo at the bottom of the board...
