This is Family television?

I was flipping channels last night because Comcast has seen fit to move the TV Guide Channel up to a part of the digital realm which I don't get (grrrr...) and came across a movie in which over the course of about 2 to 3 minutes it covered scenes of:

a grown man trying to beat up a girl in her late teens/early 20s
an older man with a bloody face about to commit suicide by Hari Kari
two men beating the daylights out of each other.

It was some female ninja movie, and it was on ABC Family. Hence my question in the subject line, "this is family viewing?"

That was undoubtedly Ninja Girl. Just another Hollyweird attempt at pandering to the teen male.

Wow! Something good on ABC Family...unfort. I missed it! :(

Blame Pat Robertson -- they wanted to change the name of the channel to reflect their new direction in programming, but Pat refused to let them (according to contract).

I guess it depends on what kind of family you grew up with.

You should see some of the kids in my neighborhood, they're pretty much raised by the cuff a hand by some parent who apprarenly thinks good English is saying MF ten times in one sentence

Unfortunately I wish I was exaggerating.

Yes, but don't you know Family Channel is for a "different kind of family?" I guess it's for the type of family Mark describes above....

I've seen commercials for Samurai Girl, but none of them piqued my interest.

The one and only show I've watched on ABC Family has been The Middleman, which just finished its first season. Great, great show.

I didn't know we lived in the same neighborhood! Stop in and introduce yourself some time. ;D

Wow, didn't know that. A Googlin' I will go, thanks!

Some of my favorite first-run shows are on ABC Family:

1. Lincoln Heights -- family drama centered around an African-American family (very unusual, but very good)

2. Greek -- dramedy centered on college frat and sororiety life (one of the main characters is gay; Pat wouldn't approve)

3. Secret Life of the American Teenage -- drama about a teenage girl who becomes pregnant and, so far, has decided to keep the baby (Robertson and Palin would totally approve)

Look for ABC Family to get more risque in 2009 when the Canadian sitcom "Sophie" (about a talent agent with a manipulative mother, ex-con for a brother, a client who slept with her father, a ex-fiance who slept with her best friend and a mixed race baby thanks to a one-night stand) joins the line-up.
